Eric-How excited I was when I opened inadams(a)rootsweb.com a while ago and discovered a
connection with the Baumgartner's. I take it your line is the Hess's or related.
My grandparents were Peter and Bertha. I am working on the Baumgartner line from
Benedict (my great, great grandfather) on down (and trying to go back the other
direction).
I do have information on Samuel and Emma and have recently written to Mary (nickname,
Wimp,) but have not had a response. She lives at Jimmerson Lake, northern part of Indiana.
She is Samuel's granddaughter.
I evidently do not have all of Samuel's children. I have Adam, Lucille, Freda, Leslie.
Samuel was also married to Elizabeth Grimes, but I don't know which children are
Emma's and which are Elizabeth's. Sometime, when you have time, I would love to
have information on that family.
I have a note that Bertha and Emma had a sister, Minnie Hess Worman who lived in Fort
Wayne and that Bertha's parents were Mary (Walchle) and Fred Hess. Is that correct?
I do know all of Peter's children, they are my aunts and uncles, and know all of my
cousins.
Peter and Samuel are brothers and I have an excellent picture of them, their brothers and
sisters and their parents, Peter B. and Mary (Hawkins) if you are interested. Though you
are related to the Baumgartners through the Hesses I am assuming.
We know very, very little about the Hess family, so would love to get filled in on them
sometime.
I have not been to the Decatur or Berne library, but have corresponded with Berne
librarians. They have the second largest Swiss genealogy department in the country (next
to the Mormon).
Peter and Bertha are both buried at the Pleasant Dale Church of the Brethren cemetery ,
southwest of Decatur.
I live in Wells County, a couple of miles west of Adams County. 11216 North 500 East,
Ossian IN 46777. Phone 260-622-4868. Avis45(a)onlyinternet.net. My sister from North
Caroline will be coming here in September and we have plans to spend 3 days doing
genealogy. Plan to go to Decatur, Berne and Fort Wayne libraries.
Don't know where you are from, but assuming you are not local, since you were coming
here for a couple of days of genealogy.
Hope we can share information when you get back home.
