Subject: [READ-L] Genealogical Acts of Kindness
Hi everyone,
The Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness website is back online and
going
strong after a one week hiatus.
This site was started by two gals with a heart of gold not realizing
how big
it was going to become, and found they had no time to properly take
care of
it. They were considering closing it down, and asked if the two new
administrators would like to take it on to keep it going. The premise
for
this site is too good to just let it die, and we decided to go ahead
and take
it over. We were down for a week, getting the site changed over, but
now we
are back !
The site was created as an avenue for genealogists to post their email
address and area in which they live to do legwork for others far away
at
cost. The idea is that many of us do not live in the area that we are
researching and might need to obtain a copy of a record at a county
courthouse, picture of a tombstone, etc., and don't know where to turn
to
obtain this bit of hard data. Most of us can spare one day out of the
month
to do this for others. All of us have been helped by someone with
their act
of kindness, and this is a way of returning the favor.
Our goal is to have at least one volunteer in each county in the
United
States and with over 1,000 volunteers signed up to date, we are well
on our
way. We also have volunteers from other countries and quite a few in
Canada.
Drop by our site and check us out. If you can spare one day a month to
help
another genealogist, we'd love to have you join our group.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
