Walter E. Lister, 64, retired General Electric Co. employee, died at 8 o'clock
this morning at his home, 642 Mercer avenue, following an illness of one year.
Born in Adams county July 12 1904, he was a son of Tillman and Grace Magner-Lister,
and was married to Helen Ross March 21, 1931.
Mr. Lister was a member of the First Methodist church, a member of and past master of
Decatur lodge 571 F &AM, and the Red Men lodge. He was retired from the G.E. after 43
years of service as a tool maker.
Surviving are his wife; two sons, Merlin Lister of Decatur; and Gearld Lister of Fort
Wayne; two daughters, Mrs. James (Beverly) Bassett of Monroe, and Mrs. Parmela Smitley of
Decatur; a half-sister, Mrs. Helen Wagner of Phoenix, Ariz.; three brothers Guy Lister of
Geneva, and Joshua and Bill Lister, both of Decatur; a halfbrother, Jim Harkless of
Decatur and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Zwick funeral home,
with Rev. Melvin W. Seeger officiating. Burial will be in the Decatur cemetery. Friends
may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. Tuesday until time of the services. Masonic
services will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday.
