At Rest
William Strickler was born in Fayette Co., Penn., March 20th, 1842. He was united in
marriage to Lydia Avery April 25, 1866, to which union 12 children were born, 10 sons and
two daughters, of which three sons and one daughter are deceased. He departed this life
Nov. 6, 1897. He leaves a loving wife, seven sons, a daughter, a kind mother whose age is
96, one brother, two sisters and many many friends to mourn their loss. Our loss is his
gain.
The funeral of Mr. Strickler was held at the M. E. church, Monday afternoon, the
services being conducted by Rev. H. Kohn, who preached an impressive sermon from the test,
"What is man that Thou art mindful of him?" A goodly delegation from Decatur
Post, G. A. R., of which the deceased was a member, were present to pay their last sad
respects to their deceased comrade. The church was filled to overflowing and the remains
were accompanied to their last resting place by a very large number of friends who deeply
sympathize with the bereaved family.
