Mrs. Nick Stucky Buried Today
Pneumonia Following Stroke of Paralysis Fatal to Aged Lady
Funeral Services This Afternoon
Another of Berne's revered citizens passed away this week when Mrs. Elizabeth Stucky,
74, wife of Nicholas Stucky, repair shop owner, died at her home on Hendricks street from
pneumonia which followed a paralytic stroke suffered Nov. 12. Since the stroke her right
side has been helpless.
Funeral services for the aged lady were held at one o'clock this afternoon from the
home and at two o'clock from the Defenseless Mennonite church west of Berne, of which
she had been a devoted member for fifty-seven years.
The deceased was converted at the age of eighteen, and baptized and joined that church
immediately. Through her sickness she manifested a sweet spirit of patience, a resignation
to the will of her Master and even expressed a longing to move on to the celestial world.
On Feb. 24, 1926, Mr. and Mrs. Stucky celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.
Mrs. Elizabeth Augsburger Stucky was born Dec. 22, 1853, a daughter of John and Mary
Augsburger, of French twp. The first half century of her life was spent on the farm. More
than twenty years ago the Stucky family moved to Berne.
She was married to Nicholas Stucky on Feb. 24, 1876. Seven of the eight children born to
this union survive. They are Mrs. John H. Schindler, Mrs. Amos Moser, both of Berne, Mrs.
John Barkman, Belgian Congo, Africa, Rufine and Bessie, at home, William Stucky, Monroe
and Levi Stucky, Berne. A son, Sam, was killed in the Kingsland wreck in 1910 when two
interurban cars crashed headon and telescoped.
Brothers and sisters surviving are Mary, Sarah, Levi and David Augsburger. Three brothers,
Jacob, John, and Christ and a sister, Mrs. John Schindler, preceded her in death.
The age of Mrs. Stucky at the time of her death was 74 years, 11 months and 5 days.
