Subject: [INADAMS] God(d)ards of Adams Co., circa 1840-60
Ebenezer Goddard built and owned a general store and gristmill with
his
business partner George W. Heath, in Pleasant Mills, during this time
frame.
Also known as E. A. Godard, he and some others did various work on
the
"State
Road" which are listed in some records I have. Mr. Goddard
apparently was
also the man who "laid out" the town of Pleasant Mills.
I finally found a tiny obit for him in the Manchester, Iowa newspaper of
1882.
Mr. Goddard married Hannah Roebuck in the late 1820's. It appears that the
Roebucks and this Goddard family had many connections as neighbors, etc.
The name Michael Godard also appears as one of the earliest white men in
the
area. (I ignore spelling)
I would love to find some sort of info that might lead me to find out
where
in PA this Ebenezer was born, circa 1800-1810 (as later census show).
There
weren't that many Goddards in PA at that time. But no luck as
yet. I also
have ideas that this family may have come from Simsbury, CT, before PA.
They
are NOT in any Goddard book.
Other surnames associated with Mr. Goddard in Adams Co. are: HEATH,
SHOWERS,
BLACK, BLOSSOM.
HELP!!!
Thanks!
Julie Arney
