Hello Everyone,
First off, let me wish you and yours a very safe and Happy New Year!
I've just finished redesigning the Adams Co. web site. Tomorrow morning
(Friday, Dec. 29), I'll take the site off line to remove all the old
files and upload the new ones. I expect to be finished by noon, ET, or
earlier, provided nothing unexpected happens (like internet transmission
problems, etc.). Unfortunately, for you on the digest format of this
list, you'll probably get this after the change.
Because it will take some time for the Pico Search tool to reindex all
the files, it may be a few hours after the site is uploaded before that
tool will function properly.
The URL for the Adams Co. site will remain the same.
I hope you'll give me your comments about the site after the change.
I've worked at trying to make it more useful and easier to navigate. Let
me know what you think, and especially if you spot any problems or have
any questions. Anytime you notice a broken link, please tell me. Web
sites change from time to time and it's difficult to keep up.
If you run across a site that you think might be of genealogical interest
to Adams Co. researchers, please let me know so that I might include a
link on the Adams Co. site.
A number of you have family information posted on the Adams Co.
Genealogy Page (to be renamed the Families page). (For those of you who
have the material posted on your own web site to which I have linked,
you can ignore the rest of this message.) Earlier today I send out an
email to each address listed in each of the family histories to verify
the addresses. I've already had a number of bounces, invalid addresses,
which I'll list below, along with the family name it's associated with.
As I mentioned in my message, with the redesign of the site, I need to
know if you want to keep your family posted. If so, I'll need a new file
(preferably GEDCOM) so that I can create a new listing. I'm doing this
for a couple of reasons. First, I have some updated software to convert
GEDCOMs to web pages. Second, all of the current material is stored on a
server in my own personal space. I need to get all of that transferred
to the Adams Co. server. That will also allow the Pico Search tool to
index those files for searching, which will help all our visitors.
I'd like to have the updated information for the Families page by the
end of January, but if that is not possible, please let me know and I
will not delete your current information until I receive the update.
Thanks for your patience in this transition!!
