Mrs. Chris Roth of Geneva Died Tuesday Noon
Funeral Services Will Be Held At West Missionary Church Fri.
Mrs. Chris Roth of west of Geneva passed away yesterday noon at her home at 12:15. Mrs.
Roth had been in ailing for some years but was not confined to her bed until about two
weeks ago. Death was due to complications and old age.
She was born in Wabash township on February 13, 1861, and lacked but a few days of being
79 years of age. She lived all her life in Wabash township with the exception of about six
years which were spent in Missouri. Her marriage to Chris Roth took place on June 20,
1886, in the Defenseless Mennonite church, Bishop Henry Egly performing the ceremony.
Mr. Roth has been seriously ill and bedfast since Christmas. He is helpless.
To this union were born ten children, five sons and five daughters. One son, Levi, died in
infancy. Those surviving besides the husband are four sons, Joseph of Ft. Wayne, Henry of
Rice, Va., Simon of Williams, Minn., and Chester of Geneva; five daughters, Samilda at
home, Mrs. Aldine Mertz of Geneva, Mrs. Clara Templin of Hamilton, Ind., Mrs. Elam Amstutz
of Berne, and Mrs. Savilla Habegger of Bluffton, twenty-two grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren; two brothers, John and Sol Stucky, both of near Geneva; one half
brother, Dr. Noah Zehr of Fort Wayne; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Fox of Berne and Mrs. Sarah
Stockwell of Pennsylvania.
Funeral services will be held on Friday afternoon at 1:15 at the house and 2 o'clock
at the West Missionary Church of which she was a faithful member until her death. The
pastor, Rev. Chris J. Gerig, will officiate at the services.
