Hello Listers,
Did you know that the Works Progress Administration
(WPA) indexed birth, death and marriage for many
counties in Indiana? Fortunately, Adams was one of
those counties (they worked alphabetically, but the
project ended before they could get as far as
Randolph).
Those indexes (from 1882-1920 for births and deaths,
1845 - 1920 for marriages) are accessible at the
Decatur Public Library, Adams Co. Health Dept. and the
Adams Co. Clerk.
You can also access a transcription of them at the
Adams Co. INGenWeb site.
Be aware that names may not be spelled the way you
think they should. The original records were sometimes
difficult to read or interpret. So be sure to scan
through the list for spelling variations when you are
searching for that elusive ancestor.
