Berne Witness, Thursday, March 2, 1899
Mrs. Anna Barbara Beer nee Dubach, was born in Canton Bern, Switzerland, June 23, 1831,
and died instantly at her home in Berne on Thursday evening, February 23, 1899, at the age
of 67 years and 8 months.
Her death is supposed to have been caused by a stroke of apoplexy. She had just recovered
from an attack of la grippe and on that day had been out visiting and was feeling better
than she had for many days. All at once in the evening she complained of an acute pain in
her sides and suddenly it went to her heart. Scarcely had her husband helped her on a
lounge, when she said, I must die. Repeating the same words and saying something about
Jesus, her spirit left her and took its flight to another world.
Deceased was married to Christian Beer on May 24, 1850 in Switzerland, and two years later
removed with her husband to this country. She had given birth to eleven children, seven
boys and four girls, of whom one boy and two girls preceded her. There remain to mourn her
departure a bereaved husband, eight children and twenty grandchildren. She had been a
member of the Mennonite church until 1893 when she and her husband united with the
Reformed church.
The funeral services were held Sunday morning in the Reformed church, Rev. B. Ruf
preaching to a very large audience.
