is a lawfully acknowledged Townsman of our Parish, and he will
be received as such at all times; is understood however,
that this Certificate must be used only for his personal use
during his stay abroad, and by no means for the purpose of contracting
a marriage, for which he will have to get a special Certificate of
Origin, or a special authorization from the Gouvernement.

Comes now into open court Peter F. Sunier Jr and files the following
certificate of intention to become a citizen of the United States, to wit,
I
Peter F. Sunnier I as above do make the following report of myself. To
wit, I
am a native of Canton Bern in Switzerland born on the 25th day of April
1821.
I emigrated from the city of Havre in France on the day of June A.D. 1837
and
arrived in the Port of New York in the United States of America on the
day of
August A.D. 1837 and owe my allegiance to the republic of Switzerland,
and
I do
solemnly swear that it is and has been for the last three years bona fide
my
intention to become a citizen of the United States of America and of the
State
of Indiana and do renounce and abjure forever all allegiance and fidelity
to
any foreign Prince, Potentate State or Sovereignty whatever and more
particularly to the Republic of Switzerland, Peter Frederic Sunier Jr.

of the State of Indiana, do hereby certify the above to be a true and complete
copy of the Original Report and declaration of Peter F Sunier Jr Now on

my office and recorded on the Records of said court agreeably to the act
of
Congress in such case made and provided In testimony whereof I have hereunto
subscribed my name and affixed the seal of said court at Decatur the 10th
day

And thereupon the said Peter F. Sunier I now have in open court by the
testimony of John French & Julius J.B. Alexander citizens of the United
States
proves to the satisfaction of the Court that he has resided in the United
States for five years last past without being at any time during said five
years out of the limits of the same, and that he has resided in the State
of
Indiana for one year last past. And that during all the period of time
aforesaid he has behaved as a man of good moral character attached to the
principles of the Constitution of the United States and well disposed toward
the good order and happiness of the same Whereupon the said Peter F.
Sunier Jr
is now here in open court duly sworn to support the constitution of the
United
States. and to absolutely renounce and abjure forever all allegiance and
fidelity to any foreign Prince Potentate State or Sovereignty whatever
and
more
Particularly to the Republic of Switzerland of Whom he was heretofore subject.

come Greeting: WHEREAS Peter F. Sunier of Wayne County, Ohio has deposited
in
the GENERAL LAND OFFICE of the United States, a Certificate of the REGISTER
OF
THE LAND OFFICE at Fort Wayne, whereby it appears that full payment has
been
made by the said Peter F. Sunier according to the provisions of the Act
of
Congress of the 24th of April, 1820, entitled "An Act making further provision
for the sale of the public Lands" for the north east quarter and the north
half
of the north west quarter of section three in township twenty six north
of
range thirteen east, in the District of Lands subject to sale at Fort Wayne,
Indiana, containing two hundred and fifty one acres and twenty eight
hundredths
of an acre according to the official plat of the survey of the said Lands,
returned to the General Land Office by the SURVEYOR GENERAL which said
tract
has been purchased by the said Peter F. Sunier, NOW KNOW YE, That the UNITED
STATES OF AMERICA in consideration of the Premises and in conformity with
the
several acts of Congress in such case made and provided HAVE GIVEN AND
GRANTED
and by these presents DO GIVE AND GRANT unto the said Peter F. Sunier and
to
his heirs, the said tract above described TO HAVE AND TO HOLD the same
together
with all the rights, privileges, immunities, and appurtenances of whatsoever
nature thereunto belonging unto the said Peter F. Sunier and to his heirs
and
assigns forever.
IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF, I, Martin Van Buren PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES

AMERICA have caused these Letters to be made PATENT, and the SEAL OF THE

12. Pierre Frederic SUNIER Jr was born on 6 May 1821 in Nods, Cerlier,
Berne, Switzerland.1,4 He was christened on 3 Jun 1836 in Nods, Cerlier,
Berne, Switzerland.5 He died in 1856 in , Adams, IN.1 Will Book A-174.
NOTE: He came to the US in 1837 with his father and brother. They
settled in Wayne Co, Ohio until 1840. Then they moved to Adams Co, IN.
He died of typhoid fever.
He was married to Mary Ann BENET in 1850 in , Adams, IN. Mary Ann BENET
was born in 1829 in Metz, Alsace-Lorraine, France.3 She died in 1904 in
, Wells, IN. 3 Her name is spelled Baynay sometimes. She married David
BOVINE after Pierre Frederic's death and had childrenby him. Children of
Pierre Frederic SUNIER Jr and Mary Ann BENET were:
