Hi all. While searching the Jay Co. newspapers today for a particular 1908
obit, I came accross the following, and decided to copy it and pass it along
to the Adams Co. lists in hopes it might be of help to someone researching
this family. I have also sent this to the Jay Co. list and the new ECI-WCO
list.

Adams County Man Ended His Life......
Earnest Gallmeyer, a prominent farmer hung himself in stable last Sunday....
Earnest Gallmeyer, one of the wealthiest and best-known citizens of Adams
county, committed suicide Sunday at his country home by hanging. He had
been complaining for some time of severe pains in his head and three days
ago commenced to brood over religious matters. Sunday morning he went to
the stable to do his usual morning work and to prepare the turnout so that
the family might drive to the church, where he was to have been instaled as
treasurer. He was absent from the house an unusual length of time and his
wife, becoming alarmed, sent her daughter to the stable where she made a
shocking discovery. Mr. Gallmeyer had taken a ladder and climbed to a large
beam in the barn, around which he tied some binder twine. Then he made a
noose in the rope and jumped from the ladder, breaking his neck. Death
resulted instantly. A postmortem examination developed the fact that his
brain was diseased and that the same had become hardened in several places.
He leaves a wife and two daughters to mourn their loss.
