Indiana Historical Society to Host Genealogy Research Workshops
Indianapolis - The Indiana Historical Society will host two genealogy
workshops on August 24 and 25 from 9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Betty Warren,
president of the Indiana Genealogical Society, will present the programs
on unlocking your family's past. Warren will discuss the reference
tools needed for family history research and a reference librarian from
the Indiana State Library Genealogy Division will be on-hand to review
specific resources available in the genealogy division. The workshop
will also incorporate discussions on records and documents including
family sources, census, cemetery and church records.
The same material will be presented both days so participants should
choose to attend only one day. The cost to attend the workshop is $30;
$20 for IHS members; $15 for students aged eighteen or younger. Seating
is limited and early registration is encouraged. Registration is
limited and the registration deadline is June 29. To registration call
(317) 233-5659, email csorensen(a)indianahistory.org, or visit the IHS
website at
www.indianahistory.org for a copy of the workshop brochure.
Since 1830, the Indiana Historical Society has collected, preserved,
interpreted and disseminated Indiana history. The independent, nonprofit
organization also publishes books and periodicals; makes research
grants; sponsors teacher workshops; provides youth, adult and family
programming; and assists local historical groups throughout the state.
One of the oldest historical societies in the United States, the Indiana
Historical Society has more than 11,000 members, making it the third
largest historical society in the country.
