Subject: [INADAMS] Searching Baxter-Pillars
Hi, all:
I am hoping someone can help me. I am planning to head out to Adams
County early
in June and would like to know where to look for some specific
information. I tried the web site specifically for Adams County, but under
the cemeteries it didn't give me names to search, only a few cemeteries had
listed names or surnames of the persons buried there. I'd like to find the
cemetery where Greenberry and Rebecca (Pillars) Baxter are buried, as well
as any of their kin. I saw that Alpha Cemetery did have some Pillars, but no
Baxters were listed.
I am also hoping to find out when the Decatur Public Library is
open, as
I found a page that included a wonderful list of Genealogical Aids in the
library (including cemetery records). I'd like to go look around the
library -- and also the courthouse -- to find some other members of the
families for both Greenberry and Rebecca.
I was pleased to find that there is a marriage record for
Greenberry and
Rebecca on a Indiana web site that allows you to search by one of
the
spouse's names. They were married Dec. 21, 1845. Do those early marriage
certificates list parents' names (I thought I'd send for copies of it
anyway)? The couple and their first three children are listed in the 1850
Census, though I didn't find Greenberry in an index in 1860 (suppose he
died?). According to what the 1850 census said, Greenberry and Rebecca were
both 25 and were both born in Ohio. Mary was 4, William was 2 and Benjamin
was 1.
As I'm not too familiar with Indiana records, I wondered if any
of you
wouldn't mind offering some advice. Does Fort Wayne have a library that
has
more records/information about Adams County, or just up until Adams County
was organized from Allen County?
Seems like there was another question I meant to ask, but I think I
rambled on enough. By the way, their son William had moved to Wisconsin by
1869 to marry a gal and start a family.
I'd appreciate some help!
