Joel Maller, 81, Has Fatal Attack
A lifelong resident of Adams County, Joel Maller, 81, of Decatur Route 4 died at 4 p.m.
Sunday at Clinic Hospital. He had been ill five hours. Death was due to a heart attack.
Born April 11, 1892 in Adams County, he was a son of John and Leah Steffen Maller. His
marriage to Ida Mae Gilliom, who died Dec. 2, 1966 took place Jan. 17, 1915 in Adams
County.
A member of the Apostolic Christian Church, Mr. Maller had been engaged in farming.
He is survived by two sons, Melvin M. of Bluffton Route 4 and Robert J. of Decatur Route
4; three daughters, Mrs. Clifford (Helen) Heyerly and Mrs. Fred (Naomi) Kaehr, both of
Decatur Route 4 and Mrs. Lester (Vera) Laukhauf of Haviland, O.; a brother, Sam Maller of
Bluffton; 23 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call after 7 p.m. today at Goodwin Funeral Home.
The body will be taken to the Apostolic Christian Church at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday for
services at 10:30, Rev. John Yergler and Rev. Merril Laukhuf officiating. Burial will be
in the church cemetery.
