John Maller, 79, Dies at His Home
Well Known Farmer Dies at Home in French Township, Adams County
John Maller, 79, prominent farmer, passed away at 5:30 this morning at his home seven and
one-half miles east of Bluffton. He had been ill the past three months.
Mr. Maller was born in Switzerland, Jan. 17, 1853, a son of Jacob and Elizabeth Moser
Maller, and was 79 years, 8 months and 15 days of age at the time of his death. He had
been a resident of French township, Adams county, the past forty-three years.
He was first united in marriage to Leah Steffen on Sept. 21, 1884, and she preceded him in
death on May 12, 1923. His second marriage was to his first wife's sister, Elizabeth
Steffen. His second marriage took place May 18, 1924.
Surviving besides the widow are seven children, all by his first wife. They are Mrs. Jehu
Gerber, Adams county, Mrs. Amos Bertsch, Elgin, Ill., John L. Maller and Joel Maller,
Adams county; Samuel Maller, Bluffton; Mrs. Levi Gerber, Adams county, and Levi Maller,
Bluffton. Three sons and one daughter are deceased. Forty grandchildren also survive.
Mr. Maller was the last of a family of nine children,
He was a member of the Christian Apostolic church.
Funeral services will be held at the home at 1 o'clock Wednesday afternoon and at 2
o'clock at the Christian Apostolic church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
