The 1979 History of Adams County, Indiana, Volume I, page 360
by Adams County Historical Society
Chris Ebnit was born in Switzerland in 1872, and came to the United States in 1874 with
his father, mother and family. They lived in Wells County, where he grew up, and married
Elizabeth Aschliman. In 1910, they, with their six children, moved to French Twp., Adams
Co., one mile south and three fourth's of a mile west of Cottonwood School. Two more
children were born while they lived there. All of the children attended the Cottonwood
School and the road to school was mud all the way until about 1914. The stone for the road
was hauled by horse and wagon as well as with two large wagons pulled by steam engines
which were driven by Oscar Meschberger.
