Lois A. Smith, 92, formerly of Decatur and Indian Harbor Beach, Florida, died Saturday in Wuesthoff Hospice Care Center at Rockledge, Florida.
She was born on August 20, 1915, in Allison Park, Pennsylvania, to Harry F. and Sarah A. Knapp Westhoff.
She married Clark W. Smith on June 10, 1939; he survives.
She was a homemaker and a member of First Presbyterian Church.
Other survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Jerry (Deborah A.) McVicker of Indian Harbor Beach, and five grandchildren.
A daughter, six sisters, and two brothers are deceased.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday in Haggard and Sefton Funeral Home, with burial in Decatur Cemetery.
Visitation is 2-3 p.m. Saturday.
Preferred memorials are to the church.

Deceased Name: Leon D. Snyder
Leon D. Snyder, 83, Decatur, died Sunday in Adams Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Portland on November 22, 1924, to Dwight D. and Della D. Trueblood Snyder.
He married Mary R. Pollock on December 24, 1945; she died on November 17, 2007.
He retired in May of this year from Prestress Services of rural Decatur. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 571, Moose Lodge 1311, and Elks Lodge 993, all in Decatur; and was a lifetime volunteer firefighter with the Decatur Fire Department.
Surviving are two sons, Jeff Snyder of Geneva and Mike Snyder of Decatur; three daughters, Mrs. J.C. (Beth A.) Ford of Van Wert, Ohio, and Mrs. Kenneth (Deborah K.) Heyerly and Mrs. Jay (Jo) Witte, both of Decatur; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A brother is deceased.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Haggard and Sefton Funeral Home, with burial in Decatur Cemetery.
Visiting hours are 2-8 p.m. Wednesday, with a memorial service to be conducted by the volunteer firefighters from the Decatur Fire Department.
Preferred memorials are to First United Methodist Church in Decatur or to Family Hospice of Northeast Indiana, at Berne.

Deceased Name: Gerald V. Smith
Gerald Verlin Smith, 86, of Monroeville, passed away on Friday, October 9, 2009, at his residence.
He was born on October 17, 1922, in Bluffton, Indiana, to Maynard and Mary Jane (Lash) Smith.
He married Ruth L. Hess 62 years ago on May 10, 1947; she survives in Monroeville.
He is survived by two sons, Gary (Janet) Smith of Decatur and Dean (Julia) Smith of Monroeville; three daughters, Shirley (Ray) Scott of Hoagland, Diane (Larry) Irwin of Decatur, and Julie (Ron) Becher of Berne; nine grandchildren, Jamie Horne of Fort Wayne; Eric (Stacey) Smith of Monroe; Landon Smith and Nick (Lindsey) Irwin of Decatur; Ryan (Holly) Becher and Cole (Cassie) Becher of Berne; Josh (Kary) Smith of New Haven; and Alisa Irwin and Melissa (Thomas) McCullough of Decatur; nine greatgrandchildren, Paige Horne; R. J. and Ian Smith; and Corbin, Ivy, Talon, Duncan, Jackson, and Mavrick Becher.
Baby Smith and Baby McCullough are due in 2009. He was also a "grandfather" to Marcus Miller of Decatur.
Other survivors are two half-brothers, William (Marge) Simon of Berne and Tom E. (Velma) Smith of Frankfort, Indiana; a sister-in-law, Rosanna Simon of Berne; and a brother-in-law, Robert Evans of Forest, Indiana.
He was preceded in death by Matthew Miller (who was like a grandson to him) on August 12, 2009; a brother, Harold Smith; a sister, Mabeline Moser; a half-brother, Roger Simon; a half-sister, Judy Evans; two stepbrothers, Victor and James Simon; and two stepsisters, Martha Gifford and Leola Sprunger.
Gerald retired in 1987 from B. F. Goodrich after 25 Smith years of service. He then drove truck for 15 years for R. J. Becher and Sons in Berne, owned by his son-inlaw, Ron Becher.
Gerald was a proud World War II veteran, having served in the South Pacific in the Palau Islands.
Two years ago, his family took him to the WW II Monument in Washington D. C., where people stood in line to shake his hand, take pictures, and thank him for his service.
He loved his family above all else and always loved and cared for animals, especially horses, goats, dogs, and cats. He was always emphatic that in place of flowers he wanted bags of dog food around his casket.
Visitation is 2-8 p.m. on Tuesday, October 13, 2009, at Haggard and Sefton Funeral Home, Decatur.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 14, 2009, at Haggard and Sefton Funeral Home, with Rev Ralph Klinker officiating.
Burial will take place in the Decatur Cemetery, with military graveside rites by American Legion Post 43 of Decatur.
Memorials may be made to the Monroeville Emergency Medical Service unit or to the Allen County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Virgil Bernard, Five-year-old Son of Mr. and Mrs. George C. Mumma
HAS PASSED AWAY
Virgil Bernard, aged five years, ten months and twenty-five days, little son of Mr. and Mrs. George C. Mumma of the west part of the city, passed away Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock from an illness occasioned by an obstruction of the bowels. The child was born January 11, 1907, and was the oldest of the two children, a sister, aged two years surviving. The little fellow was a lovable little fellow and his demise is sadly felt. The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock from the United Brethren church, in charge of the Rev. Love.

Deceased Name: Clark W. Smith
Clark W. "Tad" Smith, 92, of Indian Harbor Beach, Florida, a former Decatur resident, died on Sunday, October 26, 2008, at Wuesthoff Hospital in Melbourne, Florida.
He was born on February 2, 1916, in Adams County, Indiana, to the late Fred and Jean (Lutz) Smith.
He married Lois A. Westhoff on June 10, 1939, and she passed away May 3, 2008.
Surviving are a daughter Mrs. Jerry (Deborah) McVicker of Indian Harbor Beach, Florida; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were a daughter, Jeannie Biggs, and a brother, Lewis L. Smith.
Clark was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Decatur. He was a local realtor and contractor for over 50 years with Ideal Realty; a 50-year member of the Decatur Lions Club; a member of Decatur Masonic Lodge No. 571, Scottish Rite Valley of Ft. Wayne, and Mizpah Shrine of Ft. Wayne; a member of the Adams-Jay County Board of Realtors; and a member of the Aircraft Owners' and Pilots' Association. He was an avid private pilot for over 40 years.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2008, at 11 a.m. in Haggard and Sefton Funeral Home, Decatur, with calling one hour prior to services.
Rev. Laura Sherwood will be officiating. A Masonic service will be held at 9:45 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home.
Burial will be in Decatur Cemetery.

Jordan D. Sloffer, 21 years old, of Decatur, passed away on Sunday, September 21, 2008 at his residence.
He was born on February 25, 1987, in Fort Wayne, the son of Arthur and Deena (Boggs) Sloffer.
Jordan was a C. N. C operator at Bluffton Motor Works, where he had been employed for the past year and a half.
Surviving are his parents, Arthur and Deena Sloffer of Decatur; a brother, Tyler R. Sloffer of Decatur; and his maternal grandparents, Ray and Betty Boggs of Churubusco, Indiana.
Preceding Jordan in death were his paternal grandparents, Everett and Dorothy Sloffer.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 25, 2008, in Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur.
Friends will be received from 1-4 p.m. and 5 - 8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 24, in Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home.
