Gerald L. Beer, 74 years old of Decatur, Indiana, passed away on
Sunday, March 25, 2012 at his residence.
He was born on Saturday, December 25, 1937 in Decatur, Indiana the son
of the late Wilbert Beer and the late Della (Zurcher) Beer. He married
Glenda C. Thomas on December 22, 1956 in the Zion United Church of
Christ in Decatur.
Gerald was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ; the Moose
Lodge #1311; and the Sons of the American Legion.
He was the owner & operator of Beer Sewer & Septic from 1987 to his
retirement in 2005.
Surviving are his wife, Glenda C. Beer of Decatur; son, Robert D.
(Mary) Beer of Decatur; son, Daniel L. (Brenda) Beer of Wolcottville,
Indiana; son, Rodney K. (Debra) Beer of Bronson, Michigan; daughter,
Peggy S. (David) Rumschlag of Decatur; sister, Vera Nolan of St.
Mary's , Ohio; sister, Lucille Clem of Decatur; fourteen
grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Preceding Gerald in death were a granddaughter, Megan Beer; four
brothers: Dale, Glen, Chester & Arthur Beer; and five sisters: Harriet
Beer, Marjorie Buuck, Agnes Beer, Verna Feasel & Melvena Hirschy.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 28, 2012
in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Rossman officiating.
Interment will follow in the Decatur Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 2 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, March
27 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur.
Preferred memorials are to donor's choice.

Lula Opal Smitley, 89, route 2, Decatur, died at 6:24 p.m. Sunday at
Ossian Health Care Center. A patient there since March 1 of 1983, she had
been ill several months.
Born June 22, 1897 in Tipton County, Indiana, she was the daughter of
Thomas W. and Dora Brown-Smitley (sic). She was married in 1913 to Floyd
Smitley, who died December 16, 1964. A homemaker, she was a member of the
Decatur Church of God.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Lee (Violet May) McBride, Haines
City, Florida; a sister, Mrs. Mabel Lundin, Lake Hamilton, Florida; a
brother Guy Bess, Ossian; five grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 9
great-great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Zwick-Boltz &
Jahn Funeral Home, Rev. Kenneth Mishler in charge; burial will be in Decatur
Cemetery. Friends may (sic) from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral
home.

Everett F. Shauver, 73, Fort Wayne, a native of Adams County, died at 7 a.m. Wednesday at his home.
He retired in 1976 after 20 years with Montgomery Ward & Co. His wife, Betty, died in February. Survivors include one son, Robert, Springfield, O.; one sister, Ethel Delauter, Hartford City; and two grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in D.O. McComb & Sons Maplewood Park Funeral Home, Fort Wayne, with calling from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. today. Entombment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Memorials are to the East Allen County Church of Christ.

DAUGHTER OF CITY MAN KILLED IN OHIO CRASH
Services were held today for Donita Coil, 21, Celina, O., daughter of Don Coil, Decatur, who died Saturday morning of injuries received in a traffic accident at the intersection of US 33 and Bay Rd., near Wapakoneta, O.
A Celina native, she was born June 2, 1965. Survivors include the father; her mother and stepfather, Lana Carpenter Sutter and Albert Sutter, Celina; a sister; a stepsister; 2 half-sisters; 2 stepbrothers; a half-brother; and her maternal grandfather.
A graduate of Celina High School and Ohio State Beauty Academy, Columbus, she was employed as a cosmetologist at Char-Ma?? Beauty Shop, Wapakoneta.
W.H. Dick & Sons Funeral Home, Celina, was in charge of arrangements.

Walter E. Darling, 95, Fort Wayne, father of Robert Darling, Decatur, died Friday morning at Veteran's Hospital, Marion.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, Mr. Darling lived in Fort Wayne several years and was a retired postal clerk. He was a World War Army Veteran. His wife, Mary, died in 1980. Survivors include the son of Decatur, and nine grandchildren.
Services will be held at 9 a.m. Monday in Mungovan and Son Memorial Chapel, Fort Wayne, with calling from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in the Catholic Cemetery.

Roy Holthaus, 50, Huntington, son of Orah Holthaus, Decatur, died Tuesday at 1:45 p.m. at his home, following an illness of six months.
He was employed at Noll Printing, Huntington, where he was senior marketing representative. He was a member of St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus in Huntington.
Born in Monroeville on Nov. 2, 1935, he was the son of Aloysius and Orah Reuille-Holthaus, and was married in Fort Wayne on June 30, 1956 to Mary Harber.
Survivors include the wife; the mother of Decatur; three daughters, Pamela Reust, Huntington; Susan Holthaus, at home and Jennifer Holthaus at home; two sons, Michael, Huntington and Daniel, Huntington; one grandson; three sisters, Jeanne Kortenber, Decatur; Rita Landstoffer, Fort Wayne; and Joanne Mannes, Deltona, Fla.; one brother, James Holthaus, Fort Wayne. Two brothers are deceased.
Services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Huntington, Rev. Ronald Rieder officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Huntington. PAUL M. WOLPERT
Paul M. Wolpert, 63, 1028 High St., retired partner in the operation of West End Restaurant, died at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Caylor-Nickel Hospital, Bluffton, of Lou Gehrig's Disease.
A lifelong resident of Decatur, the well-known Mr. Wolpert was born Dec. 30, 1922, the son of Joseph L. and Veronica E. Sheeter-Wolpert. He retired in 1984 after 10 years as a partner with his brother, Louis, in the West End Restaurant. He had been associated with the restaurant for over 35 years.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society, Knights of Columbus Council 864, Msgr. Seimetz Assembly Fourth Degree, Adams Post 43 of the American Legion, Loyal Order of Moose. He also was a member of the local barbershop singing organization, and was currently secretary and active in the Adams County Adamizers Barbershop Chorus. He served in the North African and Italian Campaign with the 10th U.S. Army Mountain Division during World War II.
Surviving are two sisters, Mary Jo Wolpert and Agnes Heimann, both of Decatur; one brother, Louis A. Wolpert, Decatur and 15 nieces and nephews. Three brothers, Edward, Robert and Joseph Wolpert are deceased.
A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Father Robert Dombrowski officiating. Burial will be in the Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call at the Sefton Funeral Home from 7-9 p.m. Thursday and 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Friday. Rosary services will be held there at 8 p.m. Friday. Memorials are to the St. Mary's Parish Improvement Fund.

Chauncey C. Wilder, a resident of Decatur, died at 5 o'clock this morning at the Lutheran Hospital, following an operation for an intestinal disturbance which he underwent yesterday. The decedent was born in Adams County, Jan. 5, 1861 and had resided in that county all his life. He operated a butcher shop in Decatur for a number of years . He is survived by the wife and several children. The body was taken to the Klaehn & Melching parlors to be prepared for burial, and was shipped to Decatur this noon.

My great-great grandfather is Frederick Augustus Gobat; Born: Berne, Switzerland Feb. 1831. Immigrated to the U.S. in the mid 1800's. Fought in the Civil War as a soldier from Lafayette, Tippecanoe County, Indiana. Died Jan. 1931, in Peru, Miami County, Indiana.
The information that I found listed one male child; Frederick Gobat, and two female children: Arrietta and my great-grandmother Theresa Henrietta; all born in Tippecanoe County, Indiana.
There are also at least four marriages, between 1854 and 1903 that I have found: Sarah Armstrong, Margaret Underhill, Mary Crapo, and Ida Mattix.

Also surviving are the father, of Swiss Village, Berne; two sons, Keith D., Bluffton and Kevin L., Denver Colo.; three daughters, Mrs Garry (Kay) Pearson, Davis, Xalif. (sic); Mrs. Mark (Kendra) Everett, route 2, Decatur; Kristi Ehrman, at home; two sisters, Mrs. Kent (Jean) Koons, route 8 Decatur, and Mrs. Raymond (Naomi) Becher, route 2, Decatur; and four grandsons, Torrey, Clinton, Kyle, and Lucas.
Services will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Pleasant Dale Church of the Brethren, Rev. Norman Replogle officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Lyle D. Franz, 85, of Decatur, died at 7:10 a.m. Wednesday in Woodcrest Nursing Center.
He was born on May 12, 1914 in Adams County to Louis C. and Clyo E. Barkley Franz and married Helen J. Martin on April 17, 1938; she died on November 20, 1997.
He retired in 1979 from the Micro-Precision/Textron plant in Berne and was a member of the former St. Paul Missionary Church, where he was a teacher and Sunday School superintendent. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of the American Legion Post 43 in Decatur.
Surviving are two sons, James A. Franz of Decatur and Dr. Jerry L. Franz of Arlington, Texas; two sisters, Mrs. Harold (Ferne) Painter of Fort Wayne and Goldie Teeple of Bradenton, Florida; and two grandchildren.
A brother, Doyle Franz, is deceased.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Haggard and Sefton Funeral Home, Decatur, with burial in Decatur Cemetery, including military graveside rites by the color guard from American Legion Post 43.
Visiting hours are 2-8 p.m.
Preferred memorials are to Pathways Adult Center in Decatur or The Adams County Council on Aging.

Marvin Paul Lehman, 93, Berne, died at 9:45 p.m. Thursday in Swiss Village.
He was born on April 12, 1906 in Berne to John and Rachel Stauffer Lehman. He married Glenna Kerr Duff; she died in 1975. He married Novella Swartout Blakeney on January 27, 1983; she survives.
He was a retired tinsmith who worked many years for Liechty Brothers in Berne before retiring in 1978. He was a member of First Mennonite Church in Berne and was a former member of the Mennonite Mens Chorus and the Mennonite Choral Society.
Other survivors are two sons, Berdell Lehman of Berne and Bernard Lehman of Hickory, North Carolina; a daughter, Marilyn Townsend, wife of Dr. Ronald Townsend of Ocala, Florida; two stepsons, Gordon Blakeney of Vestal, New York and David Blakeney of West Palm Beach, Florida; nine grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren.
Three sisters are deceased: Aldine Shoemaker, Martha Neuhouser and Metta Dean. Six brothers are also deceased: Christian, Franklin, Alfred, Walter, Howard and Orlando Lehman.
Funeral services are pending at Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home, Berne. Burial will be in MRE Cemetery, west of Berne.
