DEATH CLAIMS JOHANNA GASE - Mrs. Johanna Gase Dies Saturday Night at County Hospital
Mrs. Johanna Louise Gase, 66, widow of the late George L. Gase, died at the Adams County Memorial Hospital at 8:50 p.m. Saturday after a several month's illness of coomplications.
She was born April 5, 1875, in Seneca County, O., the daughter of John and Mary Zahm-Bogner. She was married to George L. Gase May 5, 1898.
Mrs. Gase was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church, the St. Mary's ___ and the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
Survivors include the following children: Herman, at home; John of Riverside, IA; Leo of Detroit; Raphael, Norbert and Lawrence, all of Fort Wayne; Hubert of Decatur; Mrs. Lawrence Beckmeyer of Decatur and Mrs. Frank Rindler of Maria Stein, O.; and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Austin Straub of Cambridge City; William Bogner and Otto Bogner of Branch, Mich., Mrs. Theresa Upheil of Huntington; Robert Bogner of Enfanta, Ala.; and Lawrence of Fort Wayne. A son, George was killed when struck by an auto January 2, 1931; another son, Jerome was killed in an auto accident Aug 12, 1938; and a daughter died when one and one--half years of age. Three sisters and two brothers are deceased.
Funeral services will be held at the St. Mary's Catholic Church Wednesday at 9 a.m. Rev. J. J. Seimetz officiating. Burial will be in the Catholic cemetery. The body will be removed to the residence, one mile north of Decatur, from the Zwick funeral home this evening and may be viewed after 7 o'clock.

WALTER MELCHER
Walter Melcher, 88, Hoagland, died at 10:27 p.m. Sunday in the emergency room of Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, after suffering a heart attack at home.
He was born on August 20, 1907 in Hoagland to William and Bertha Hoffman Melcher and married Emma Reifsteck on September 3, 1932; she survives.
He retired after a 25-year career as a milk hauler for Allen Dairy and was also a retired brickmason. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church (Flatrock) and a member of Brickmason's Local 2 for 30 years.
Other survivors are two daughters, Mrs. James (Marlene) Stover, St. Paul, Ohio; and Mrs. Charles (Barbara) Shepherd, Troy, Ohio; two sons, Fred Mechler, Cincinnati, Ohio and Stephen Melcher, New Haven; two sisters, Loretta Scheumann, and Helen Melcher, both of Decatur; a brother, Carl Melcher, route 8, Decatur; 11 grandchildren and 2 great-greatgrandchildren. Two brothers, Delbert and Paul Melcher, are deceased.
Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. John Lutheran Church (Flatrock), Rev. Albert Berlein officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visiting hours are 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in Zwick-Sefton and Jahn Funeral Home and 9-10 a.m. Thursday in the church. Preferred memorials are to the church, Hoagland's EMS or "The Lutheran Hour".

LAWRENCE C. GASE
Lawrence C. Gase, 82, 123 N. Fifth St., died at 5:50 a.m. today in Lakeside Manor, Decatur, after a lengthy illness.
He was born on April 9, 1908 in Decatur to George and Johanna Bogner Gase and married Helen M. Staub on June 5, 1937; she survives.
He retired in 1968 after a 40-year career as a tool maker at the General Electric Co. plant in Fort Wayne. He was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and its Holy Name Society and Harvest House. He also was a life member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers and a member of GE's Quarter-Century Club.
Other survivors are four daughters: Mrs. Don (Joan M.) Moser, Ossian; Mrs. Charles (Susan C.) Schaffter, Berne; Mrs. Kirk (Georgiana M.) Wilson, Rockford, Ohio; and Mrs. James (Jane F.) Selking, route 6, Decatur; two sisters, Mrs. Lawrence (Mary) Beckmeyer, route 3, Decatur and Mrs. Frank (Agnes) Rindler, Burkettsville, Ohio; and 15 grandchildren. Eight brothers, one sister and one grandson are deceased.
A prayer service will be held at 9:40 a.m. Saturday in Zwick-Sefton and Jahn Funeral Home, followed by funeral services at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's of the Assumption Catholic Church, Father Robert J. Dembrowski officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Due to observance of Holy Week, a memorial mass will be held later.
Visiting hours at the funeral home are 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, and there will be a rosary service at 8:30 p.m. Friday. Preferred memorials are to St. Mary's Parish Improvement Fund.

Wilbert E. Copper, 72, Middleburg, Florida, brother of a Monroeville man, died March 15 in Jacksonville, Florida.
Among survivors are his wife; a son; his stepmother; a brother, Carl Copper, Monroeville; and three sisters. Funeral services were Tuesday in Middleburg, with burial in Florida.

Violet Walker Zion, 79, Fort Wayne, mother of a Hoagland woman, died Wednesday in Lutheran Home, Fort Wayne.
Her first husband, Earl Walker, died in 1967; her second husband, Carl C. Zion died in 1990. Surviving are a son; three daughters, including Martha J. Imler, Hoagland; a sister and four brothers.
Funeral services are at 9 a.m. Saturday in D.O. Macomb & Sons Foster Park Funeral Home, Fort Wayne, with burial in Concordia Cemetery Gardens, Fort Wayne. Visiting hours are 1-4 and 7-9 p.m. today.

Donald K. Renner, 63, Portland, died Wednesday in Jay County Hospital, Portland.

RACHEL RODENBECK
Rachel V. Rodenbeck, 92, a former Decatur resident, died at 8:05 p.m. Wednesday in Brighton Hall Nursing Home, New Haven, where she had been a patient since May, 1989. She had been in failing health the past two years.
A resident of Fort Wayne and lived there for eight years.(sic). She was born in Allen County on March 20, 1899. A homemaker, she was married to Otto W. Rodenbeck; he died February 8, 1954. Four sisters and five brothers are also deceased.
Survivors include two sons, Edwin Rodenbeck, Bluffton, and Ralph Rodenbeck, Fort Wayne; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Zwick, Sefton & Jahn Funeral Home, Rev. Sylvester Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Decatur Cemetery. Visitation is from 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

DAVID CRUM IS CALLED BY DEATH
Aged Resident Of Kirkland Township Dies Following Extended Illness
David Crum, 74, of Kirkland township, died at his home at 10:30 o'clock last night, following an illness of more than a year. Death was said to have been due to kidney trouble and a complication of ailments.
Mr. Crum was born in Ohio, April 22, 1854. He was a son of Daniel and Elizabeth Crum. When a young man, Mr. Crum came to Adams county with his parents and their family and has since resided in this county.
Mr. Crum never married. He is survived by two brothers, J. G. Crum and J. M. Crum, both of Adams county. Two sisters and a brother preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Zion church. Burial will be made in the church cemetery.

Arnold Seesenguth Dies Last Evening
Arnold Seesenguth, 78, of route 4, Bluffton, a resident of Adams county for 60 years, died Wednesday at 7:30 p. m. in the home of his brother, Bert Seesenguth, of route 4, Bluffton, after an illness of six weeks.
Seesenguth, who was a farmer, was the son of Henry and Bertha Gunther-Seesenguth, and was born on Oct. 6, 1880. A bachelor, Mr. Seesenguth was born in Germany.
Surviving besides his brother, are, three nieces and a nephew. A brother and sister preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2 p. m. in the Yager funeral home, with the Rev. Louis Minsterman officiating. Burial will be in the Honduras cemetery. Friends may call after 6:30 p. m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Ella Helmrich Dies Monday Night
Former Kirkland Lady Dies Monday
Mrs. Ella Helmrich, 71, widow of the late Christ Helmrich, died at 10 o'clock Monday night at the Wells county hospital in Bluffton. She had been ill four months with complications and a heart condition.
She was born in Pennsylvania, May 22, 1871, the daughter of John and Catherine Schell-Burkett. She was married at Craigville in 1889 and her husband died January 12, 1930. No children were born to their union.
Mrs. Helmrich moved from her home in Kirkland township [to] Bluffton two years ago. She was a member of the Christian Union church.
Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Mary Dilling of Decatur rural route, and three brothers, Henry Burkett of Cleveland, Ohio., Ed of Selma and Dan Burkett of Bluffton.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the St. Luke's Evangelical and Reformed church at Honduras, Rev. Matthew Worthman of Bluffton officiating. Burial will be in the Zion cemetery, south of Honduras. The body may be viewed at the Jahn funeral home in Bluffton until time of the services.

Christian Helmrich, 64, Dies at Home in Kirkland Township
Christian Helmrich, 64, prominent and respected farmer living one-half mile north of Honduras, in Kirkland township, Adams county, died at 12:05 this morning, following a two year illness of paralysis.
Mr. Helmrich was born in Germany, November 6, 1865 and came to this country when a young man. He had been a resident of Adams county for the past 40 years.
On August 30, 1891, Mr. Helmrich was married to Ella Burkett. No children were born to the union.
Besides the widow, the deceased is survived by one brother, Peter Helmrich, who resides in Kirkland township, two sisters and one brother who live in Germany.
Funeral services will be held Monday morning at 10:15 o'clock from the Christian Union church, of which Mr. Helmrich was a member. The Rev. Jay Smith, pastor will officiate. Burial will be made in the Zion cemetery at Honduras.

Apoplexy Is Cause of Death Of Aged Man At County Infirmary Today
Herman Thomas, 64, lifelong resident of Adams county, died at the Adams county infirmary at 8 o'clock this morning. Death was due to a stroke of apoplexy.
Mr. Thomas had resided at the county farm for several years. He was born in Kirkland township. Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the county farm.
Burial will be made at the cemetery at Honduras. The Rev. A. R. Fledderjohann, pastor of the Reformed church of this city will have charge of the services.

Lela M. Hoffman dies at hospital
Mrs. Lela M. Hoffman, 81, of 125 West Washington St., Monroe, wife of Martin L. Hoffman, died at 12:45 a.m. today at the Adams county memorial hospital, where she had been hospitalized four days.
She was a member of the Monroe United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women's organization.
Born in Adams county on October 12, 1892, she was the daughter of Forest and Alice Ranier-Andrews, and was married on June 8, 1912, to Martin L. Hoffman, who survives.
Other survivors include one son, Doyle A. Hoffman of Coldwater, Mich.; one sister, Mrs. Harvey (Veda) Haggard of Monroe; one brother, Charles Andrews of Ossian; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Winteregg-Linn and Haggard funeral home, with Rev. Donald Wilks officiating. Burial will be in Zion Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Friday.

William F. Zaugg, 74, route 6, Decatur, died suddenly at his home Monday. Mr. Zaugg's body was discovered at 9:30 a.m. Monday.
A member of St. Luke's United Church of Christ, Mr. Zaugg was a retired farmer.
He was born March 12, 1904 in Adams County to Phillip and Margaret Baumann-Zaugg, and never married. Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Frank (Emma) Hanni, Quincy, Michigan; a brother, Ervin Zaugg, route 1, Ossian; and several nieces and nephews. One sister is deceased.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in Winteregg-Linn & Haggard Funeral Home, Rev. Kent Ulery in charge, and burial will be in Zion Cemetery. Preferred memorials are to the church.

Paul W. Scheiman, 85, Fort Wayne, a former resident of Adams County, died at 12:04 p.m. Thursday in St. Joseph's Medical Center. He was a resident of Lutheran Home the past several years.
He was born on June 5, 1909 in Columbia City to Henry and Emma Hockemeyer Scheiman and married Arvilla Bieberich on August 8, 1931. She survives.
He was a retired employee of the Martin Marietta Corp. in Denver, Colorado and a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, rural Adams County, and the Lutheran Laymen's League.
The only other survivor is a daughter, Mrs. Harvey (Delores) Tesch, Tucson, Arizona. A son, Robert Scheiman; a sister; two brothers and a grandson are deceased.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday in St. Peter Lutheran Church, with burial in Decatur Cemetery. Visitation is 1-2 p.m. Saturday in Lutheran Home; 5-7 p.m. Saturday in Zwick-Sefton and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur; and noon-1 p.m. Sunday in the church. Preferred memorials are to Lutheran Homes Inc., or "The Lutheran Hour".

NORMAN TREON
Norman "Curley" Treon, 87, 357 Stevenson St., died at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday at home.
He was born on November 11, 1910 in Versailles, Ohio to Charles W. and Lou Smith Treon and married Norma Kimmey on August 25, 1934. She survives.
He retired in 1972 after 28 years as owner of Treon's Poultry and was a member of Decatur Moose Lodge 1311. He was a former member of the United Church of Christ.
Other survivors are a daughter, Patricia Reichert, Decatur; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A sister, Josephine J. Runkle, and a brother, Robert N. Treon are deceased.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Haggard and Armes Funeral Home, Decatur, with burial in Decatur Cemetery. Visiting hours are 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Friday. There will be a Moose memorial service at 8 p.m. Friday.

Virgil D. Woodworth, 73, South Bend, died Sunday in South Bend. Among survivors are his second wife; a daughter; two sons, including Tony Woodworth, Decatur; three sisters and three brothers.
A funeral mass will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday in St. Anthony's Catholic Church, South Bend, with burial in Assumption Cemetery, South Bend. Visiting hours are 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in Orvis-Hollis Funeral Home, South Bend.
