Hello, I recently found my great grandma Roxey Lord Butler in the 1920 Indiana Census. Before this I only knew her and grandpa Dale Butler's names. My mom remembered being invited to her grandma's funeral in Michigan, she said, but didn't attend because she was living in California. There are three grandchildren, Lina, Elayla and Dale still live here in California. There is a lot of information on the LDS web site about Roxey and Dale and their parents and siblings. It would be nice to correspond with some of our distant cousins.
Kindest Regards,
Allison

DECATUR NATIVE KILLED IN GUN DUEL WITH POLICE
Max Franklin Andrews, 39, a 1949 graduate of Decatur high school, was shot and killed after wounding a policeman following an armed robbery in a liquor store in Prince Georges County, Md., apparently late yesterday, according to word received in Decatur early this morning.
UPI sources in Baltimore, Md., stated that a Veterans Liquor Store in Beltsville, Md., about ten miles north of Washington, D.C. was robbed by two armed men, and that a squad car stopped a car with its license covered. Two men emerged and drew his pistol (sic) and shot at the officers, wounding Sgt. Elton J. Nichols, a 13-year-veteran, in the chest. Both officers returned fire, and Andrews, who now resides in Washington, D.C., was pronounced dead on arrival at Prince Georges General Hospital. The police officer is reported in satisfactory condtion.
In compliance with Maryland law, both police officers were relieved of their weapons until a hearing to establish the facts in the case.
Andrews accomplice was Gary L. Sabatine, 38, also of Washington, D.C., who is being held on $25, 000 bond for armed robbery.
A former Army captain who apparently suffered some sort of mental breakdown while in service, Andrews was the son of the late Floyd L. Andrews and Mrs. Frances E. Andrews of 909 W. Monroe street. He was married in Decatur in 1953, but when he was discharged from service he divorced his wife, and has not been in close contact with his family since. While in service he developed a serious drinking problem.
He was born February 24, 1931 in Adams county, the son of Floyd L. and Frances Edith Leimenstoll-Andrews, and was a popular member of the class of 1949.
Funeral arrangements have not yet been completed.

The Adams County Indiana surnames I've been researching:
Swearingen, Helm & Miller, Congleton & Nelson, Engle & Barnett, Walter & Bovine (Sovine?). Have dead-ended on the parents of Albert Walter (1844-1927) and his wife, Augusta Bovine (1851-1899). Assume Albert's parents might be John A Walter and Catherine Kohlss, but no direct proof.

Yes, Roy Klusman is my Grandfather.
I have not had any luck with finding any definite information about Goldie
Draper, except that her father may be Clinton Draper and her mother is Susan
Draper and she was born in Kokomo, Howard Co, IN, possibly Sept. 10th 1886.
I also found information that lists Jeremiah Haggard as Goldie's father and
that Jeremiah and Susan Draper were not married. I seem to be kind of stuck
there.
Roy's father, William H. Klusmann, was born Jan. 26th, 1887. William and
Goldie were married Apr. 18th, 1910 at 1st Baptist Church in Van Wert, OH.
William died in Aug. 1966.
Roy's Social Security Number Application lists his father's full name as
William Harry Klusman and his mother's as Goldia Francis Draper. It also
has a note on it that says "P.R.R. Decatur, Ind. Track Laborer F 42" and is
dated 4-22-37.
