I have 13 George Steeles in my indexes. Years ago I separated the families.
. The ones that ended up in Adams Co,IN are descendent from George Steele
and Margret/Peggy Shoup from Bedford Co,PA to Adams Co,IN via Ashland Co,
OH. . He was the son of Jacob Steele who died in Ashland Co, OH and is
buried with his wife Mary Elisabeth Smith in Meng Cemetery,Ashland Co,IN.
Jacob's will is filed in Wayne Co,OH as Ashland Co,was not formed until
after his death. Jacob Steel/Steele was the son of George Steele and Margret
Doleman from Bedford Co,PA. Jacob was the brother of John Phillip. Their
brother George Steele that was their brother was lost to the world
according to the Welfley book. It really is confusing as everyone had a
George and many had a Samuel and Phillip. My connection with my mother who
is on page 131 of the Welfrey Book( Pauline Charity Steele) To make it even
more confusing my father married Lelah Faith Steele Davis Robock, mom's
sister when they were both 80 and had lost two spouses. Yes, Evangeline who
was between Lelah and my mother in birth order was Evangeline Hope Steele.
. Evangeline or Van never married and was a teacher in Adams Co,IN Lynn

I research with a gal named Margie Pearce, and we have lots on Sampson Rice (incase you haven't already corresponded with her!)
Their son Benjamin married into one of our ROOP family connections. What can we help with?
Karin King
Karin,I looked at my notes for Isaac A Smith, he was a farmer and a
physician. I am sure you probably could find something out in Wells Co,IN.

Karin,
I found an Isaac A. Smith s/o David and Mary Smith in the 1860 census living in Salmony [sic], Huntington, IN. There were several children for this couple.
1880 census finds Isaac & Amanda with 2 children, Bertha and Lucian living in Ann Arbor, Washtenaw, MI.
1900 census finds Isaac & Amanda with 2 children [Bertha and Lucius] and his mother, Mary living with them in Salmonie, Huntington, IN
Does this fit into your data?

Wondering if anyone can help me with the relationship of the Smith and Steele families of Adams County.
The 1900 census for Preble Township lists the family of my g-grandparents, James W. and Mary Ann (Barnhart) Smith. Their son Charles F. is not listed with them. He is listed with the family of David and Mary E. Steele. Interesting that they had a son Charles F., born seven years prior to Charles F. Smith.
Also, my g-g-grandfather was John "H" Smith. Could his middle name be somehow related to the surname of the wife of David Steele, Mary Elizabeth "Hexton/Hickson?"

Thanks Rick, that's correct. Also, do not send attachments to the list. They won't get through.
There's also a size limit with messages. Generally if you send plain text you won't hit that limit, but if you
use HTML or RTF to create a message, you could easily hit the maximum limit, and your message won't get
through.
