Would looking up the names of the individuals in the 1860 census be of any
help locating where these lost places are?
Just wondering.

There are several areas in the surrounding counties that are called
Hopewell and Toll Gate, could he have served those areas?
I know that sometime an area is mentioned in records by a feature of the
area. One such area is Detrick in Milan Township Allen county. While I
have never been able to locate a community called Detrick I know there
is a Detrick school just south of Harlan, Indiana. I have always
assumed that newspaper clipping for events occurring in Detrick were
occurring at that Detrick school.
Are there old churches or schools called Tollgate or Hopewell in Adams
county?

I've just added some new information, the notes of a Methodist Circuit Rider, on the web site. Just click on
the Adams Co. button at the top and scroll down to Ebenezer Stockbridge. It was some sort of diary with
mentions of a number of Adams Co. surnames, including Mallonee, Mann, Roop and others. There are some entries
that Sharon Simnacher and I do not understand (she submitted the notes), so if anyone can help deciper the
meaning of some of the pages, please let me know.

Please let me know if you find the records that you have that link to Christine Ripken history as well.

Hello,
our data have:
Johann Carl Wietfeldt (4.5.1785 - 18.3.1865 Burgdorf)
and
Wilhelm Christian Wietfeldt (5.12.1783 - 11.5.1869)
So far they go conform.
We also have a son for him named Heinrich Wilhelm Wietfeldt,
18.4.1818 - 20.5.1897), who has among his descendants my
wife and kids.
The wife of Franz Christian Friedrich Wietfeldt, Christiane Sophie
Magdalene, gb. Ripken, the mother of Johann and Wilhelm, is the one
my daughter tracked back towards the Pippinians.
So we just need to track down where your Konrad Wietfeldt comes
from. Perhaps his untimely death with 12 just puts down the date when
the boy vanished, to show up again years later in the States.
Or there is another son, named after the first. Or whatever.
The other data are simply too close for this to be a random connection.
Perhaps we can track that one down.
BTW: I will ask my daughter to crate a summary of the Carolinigan link
- currently its all on a collection of papers and posters, several
square meters, with up to 400 names on a single paper and well
over 1000 in total, and lots of single printouts from databases
and genalogy logs).
best regards
Axel

Are you sure your records are accurate?
I also have Wietfeldt records that go back to 1563. I have fairly good family tree history for my ancestors from Borgdurf that go back to 1703.
When I try to match what you say above I get close but notthing that is an exact match.
My records show a Johann Carl Wietfeldt (b. 5/4/1785, d. 3/18/1865). However, while he had three different wives and 16 children I have no record of a son named Conrad.
However, Johann Carl Wietfeldt had a brother named Johann Wilhelm Christian Wietfeldt (b. 12/5/1783, d. 5/11/1869) - note the same birth year and death as you had for Johann Karl. Christian Wietfeldt did have a son named Conrad (Wilhem Conrad Friedrich Wietfeldt) who was born in 1815, but my records show that this individual died at the age of 12 in 1825.
Finally, Carl and Christian's father (Franz Christian Wietfeldt) also had a brotther who lived more than 60 years and I have no records on his marriages or descendants. Thus, all of your data could come from the uncle who would have had children about the same times as those listed above.
The Wietfeldt farm is technicallly in Bennebostel, which is just outside Borgdurf, which is just outside Hannover. See the link below.

I know who in my line immigrated from Germany. My Great-Grandfather Friedrick Wietfeldt came to the US in 1852 (Source - US Census 1900) and lived in Adams County Indiana. I assume that his father, Conrad (Konrad?) Friedrich Wilhelm Wietfeldt (1815-1888) also came at that time, but have not been able to verify it. Conrad's father was Johann Karl Wietfeldt (1783-1869). That is as far back as my records go. If you can connect these names with some of your records I would greatly appreciate it. You can email me directly if you wish - whwiet(a)yahoo.com.

Burgdorf is the area where the Wietfelds originate from. Some still live there. Its a pity you cannot trace it back to the person who actually lived there. My records only cover the Wietfelds in Germany (and then not even all).
They can be traced back, however, to some of the principals of Hannover, from there on to several lower nobles (Knights) and from there to the Carolingians. So if you manage to connect to the humble Wietfelds of Burgdorf, you may gain Charlemagne and Charles Martell as free additions into your family tree :-)
