Stroke Was Fatal - Mrs. John W. McKean Died Last Evening - Result of Paralytic Stroke - Stricken Last Wednesday Afternoon and Never Regained Consciousness
Mrs. Lydia McKean, one of the best known ladies of our city and the wife of John W. McKean, died last evening at their home on west Monroe street at eight o'clock after an illness of just six days, death resulting from appoplexy (sic). Mrs. McKean, according to the statement of her physician, was seized with a stroke of paralysis on last Wednesday afternoon about five o'clock and immediately lapsed into unconsciousness from which she never rallied. Although she had been ailing for some time prior to this, her condition was not considered dangerous, and if anything, she had been slowly improving. However, Wednesday afternoon she was seized with this stroke and from that time on her demise was only a question of time, death relieving her last evening. During the five days she never regained consciousness and never rallied enough to recognize the fond ones who surrounded her bed. Mrs. McKean was a little past sixty-four years of age, having been born in Allen county, !
Ohio, in the year 1843, where she resided until she met and married John W. McKean and to this union were born ten children, seven of whom survive her, they being all sons. The funeral serviced will be held Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock at the Beery church and interment will be made in the Beery cemetery in the family burial plot.

Sudden Death - Came to Richard Boyd at Pleasant Mills Last Evening---Ill Only Fifteen Minutes - Of Neuralgia of the Heart---Had Taken Remedy to Quit Tobacco Chewing.
After only a quarter of an hour's illness, Richard Boyd, aged forty-five, a prominent resident of near Pleasant Mills, died last evening at 7 o'clock of neuralgia of the heard. Mr. Boyd had been subject to heart trouble for several years, but it has been only in the last three weeks, that the attacks become more serious, when he complained of a pain in his chest, and dizzy attacks. The last came upon him last evening at his home and a physician was hurriedly summoned, but Mrs. Boyd lived only a minute after his arrival. He was conscious to the last.
According to members of the family, Mr. Boyd about three weeks ago began to take a remedy which was advertised to cure the tobacco chewing habit. According to directions Mrs. Boyd was to continue chewing as long as he had the desire to do so, while taking the cure. He noticed that after taking the tablets in the specified doses required and then a chew of tobacco, he felt very peculiar, and it is the opinion of the family that this may have contributed to bringing on the heart attacks.
He was the son of James Boyd and was born near Monmouth forty-six years ago next October 4. With the exception of eighteen months spent in Virginia, two years ago, he has resided in this county. His wife, who survives, was formerly Miss Fannie Cordua, to who he was married twenty-one years ago, April 2. A very sad feature of the case is that eight children have lost a father's care, the youngest of whom is only two weeks old. Mrs. Boyd suffered a nervous attack last night after her husband's death, and on account of her illness, the funeral will probably be held from the home. The following are the children who survive: Ed, who will be twenty years old in May; Milo, William, Richard, Ruth, Bernice, Jessie and Reba.

Four Residents of Willshire, Ohio Meet Death When Erie Train Hits Auto at Mercer Avenue Crossing
Tragedy Occurs Early This Morning As Four Victims Were Enroute to Work in This City; Three Killed Instantly and Fourth Dies at Hospital Two Hours Later; Frosted Window Glasses Blamed for Crash
Three people were killed instantly and a fourth died of injuries two hours later when the Overland "6" sedan in which they were riding was struck by an east bound Erie meat train at the Mercer avenue crossing in this city, at 6:20 o'clock this morning. The three killed outright were Miss Hazel Lemunyon, 26; Alfred R. Stettler, 36, and Mrs. Kenneth Hoblet, 20, all of Willshire, Ohio. Hobart Strickler, also of Willshire, the fourth member of the party, died at 8:30 o'clock at the Adams County Memorial hospital this morning, without regaining consciousness.
All four of the occupants of the car were employed in this city at the General Electric factory and were enroute to work when the accident occurred. There were no eye witnesses to the tragic accident, but it is thought that the cold atmosphere had caused the glasses of the automobile to fog up and that Stettler, who was driving, failed to see the approaching train, or hear its warning signals.
SAY WHISTLE WAS SOUNDED
The train was headed east and the automobile was going north on Mercer avenue when the crash occurred. The train stopped immediately after the accident and the train crew called a local ambulance. Members of the train crew were grief stricken. They stated that the whistle of the train had been sounded and that they thought the driver of the car failed to see the approaching train.
The three bodies were removed to the Lobenstine and Hower morgue in this city and Strickler was rushed to the hospital. Strickler had a badly fractured leg and several internal injuries. He failed to regain consciousness and died about two hours after he was taken to the hospital.
BODIES BADLY MANGLED
All three who were killed outright were badly mangled. Their heads were crushed and all received many body bruises and cuts. The ill-fated car had left Willshire about 6 o'clock this morning.
Hobart Strickler and Mrs. Hoblet were the son and daughter of Grant Strickler, town marshal of Willshire. Mrs. Hoblet had been married late last summer to Kenneth Hoblet and she was to give up her work at the local factory with in the next few days. Mr. Hoblet is engaged in farming near Willshire. Strickler was married and is survived by the widow and one infant son.
Mrs. Stettler's parents are both dead. miss Lemunyon is the daughter of Mrs. and Mrs. William Lemunyon, of Willshire. All four of the young people had been employed at the General Electric plant here for some time. Both men were world war veterans.
CITY'S WORST CROSSING ACCIDENT
The parents of those killed were notified at once and came to this city. Many people from Willshire, friends of those killed, hurried to the scene of the accident and the entire village was grief stricken over the fatal wreck. The accident is the third crossing accident here in the last four weeks and the second fatal one. It is said to be the worst crossing accident to ever have occurred in Decatur.
No funeral arrangements have been made yet. Coroner J. C. Grandstaff, of Preble, came to the morgue immediately following the accident and took charge of the affair. He has not yet issued a statement.
The car in which the four people were riding was completely demolished. It was hurled down the track about a hundred feet and the top of the car was torn to shreds. The motor was badly damaged and the frame and body were almost completely destroyed.
STRICKLER TAKEN TO HOSPITAL
The bodies were thrown out of the car and were found about 75 or 100 feet east of the crossing. When the train crew found the bodies, life was extinct from the three and when it was found that the one man was still living, all possible haste was exerted by the crew to get him to the hospital.
Strickler, according to attending physicians, was dying when they arrived at the hospital and nothing could be done to save his life. He apparently was not suffering.
Couple Killed Here Today Planned to be Married Next Spring
Fate apparently pays no head to romance. miss Hazel Lemunyon and Alfred Stettler, of Willshire, Ohio, who were killed in the Mercer ave. crossing accident in this city this morning, had been close friends for several years and those who knew them stated today that they were planning to be married early next spring.
They had hoped to announce their marriage during the holidays and a close friend of Stettler's stated that a ring had been purchased and was to be given to Miss Lemunyon on Christmas.
The Dead
Hazel Lemunyon, 26, Willshire, Ohio, killed instantly
Mrs. Kenneth Strickler Hoblet, 20, Willshire, O., killed instantly
Alfred Ray Stettler, 36, Willshire, Ohio, killed instantly
Hobart Strickler, 31, Willshire, O., died at Adams County Memorial hospital at 8:30 o'clock this morning, without regaining consciousness
