DEATH CLAIMS MRS. WALTERS - Mrs. Margaret Walters Dies At Home of Daughter Early Sunday
Mrs. Margaret A. Walters, 84, a resident of Decatur for a number of years, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Grace Moser, 115 South Seventh street, Sunday morning at 4:15 o'clock. Death was due to paralysis. Mrs. Walters had been ailing for some time, but she became seriously ill last Saturday.
She had resided in Decatur, making her home with her daughter, Mrs. Moser, for the last 12 years.
Mrs. Walters was born in Johnsonville, Ohio, March 24, 1849, a daughter of Samuel and Esther Teeple. She was married to Wilson S. Johnson on April 7, 1867 and six children, five girls and a boy, were born to the union. Mr. Johnson and four girls are deceased.
Her second marriage was to Elijah Walters on April 13, 1887. He preceded her in death on January 2, 1921. No children were born to this union.
Surviving are the son, and daughter: Joe Johnson of Wren, Ohio and Mrs. Grace Moser, Decatur. Two stepsons also survive, Homer Walters of Defiance, Ohio and Charles Walters of Cleveland, Ohio, together with eight grandchildren and ?? great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Walters was a member of the local Methodist Episcopal Church and the Women's Relief Corps.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Methodist church and burial will be made in the Decatur cemetery.
The body was removed to the S. E. Black Funeral Home and will remain there until time for the funeral.

Maxine Habegger, 73, Berne, died at 5 p.m. Wednesday in Adams County Memorial Hospital.
She was born on February 6, 1922 in Berne to William and Martha Bagley Beavers.
She was a former employee of The Fair Store in Berne and a member of First Mennonite Church in Berne.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Tom (Michale) Copeland, Worthington, Ohio, and Mrs. Stan (Nancy) Augsburger, Zanesville, Ohio; two brothers, L. James Beavers, Indianapolis, and Robert Beavers, Flatrock, North Carolina; five grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.
A memorial celebration will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in First Mennonite Church. Private burial services will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in Mrs. Habegger's memory to the youth ministry of First Mennonite Church or to the Adams County Home Health program.
Funeral arrangements were by Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home in Berne.

Robert L. August, 64, Rt. 5, Decatur, a retired rural mail carrier, died at 4:30 a.m. Sunday at the Caylor-Nickel Clinic Hospital, Bluffton.
Mr. August retired two years ago from the Decatur Post Office.
Bob, as he was known to his many friends, was a member of the St. Mark's United Methodist Church. He was also a past master of Decatur Lodge 571 F&AM, and a secretary of the local lodge; a member of the Scottish Rite, York Rite, Shrine and Eastern Star; National Federated Craft; past commander of the DAV; member of Loyal Order of moose; secretary-treasurer of the Rural Letter Carriers Association, and an associate member of FOP.
Born in Van Wert County, O., on Feb. 21, 1917, he was the son of Roy and Maurine Murphy-August, and was married on Jan. 13, 1940, to Pauline McKean; she survives.
Also surviving are two children, Mrs. Michael (Diana) Johnston, Rt. 5, Decatur, and Ronald L. August, Tucson, Ariz.; two sisters, Mrs. Arley (Virginia) Johnson, Fort Wayne and Mrs. Betty Smeltzer, Bluffton; two brothers, Jack August, Nokomis, Fla., and Harold E. August, Decatur, Adams County chief deputy sheriff; and five grandchildren. One sister preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Mark's United Methodist Church, Rev. C. Albert Nunery officiating. Burial will be in Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne.
Friends may call at the Winteregg-Linn & Haggard Funeral Home after 7 p.m. today and all day Tuesday. The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to services.
Preferred memorials are the the Shrine Crippled Children's Hospital or the St. Mark's United Methodist Church General Fund.
Masonic services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Funeral services are scheduled at 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Mark's United Methodist Church. Revs. James S. Hook and Fuhrman Miller officiating, for three-term Adams County Commissioner and two-term Washington Township Assessor Robert D. Workinger. Mr. Workinger, a resident of 818 N. Third St., died at the age of 63 at 5:45 a.m. Saturday in Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.
Burial will be in Decatur Cemetery, with complete military graveside rites by American Legion Post 43. Pallbearers will be Mayor Fred Isch, Bill Whitright, Jim Inskeep, Dave Shaffer, Mike Ellenberger, Wayne Carpenter, and Bill Carpenter. Members of the Adams County Sheriff's Department will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Visitation is at 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. today and 205 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Zwick-Sefton and Jahn Funeral Home. There will be a Masonic service by the Decatur lodge at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Mr. Workinger underwent open-heart surgery on April 11 and spent the following seven weeks in the intensive care unit there. He had been showing signs of improvement and death was unexpected.
He was born in Fort Wayne on August 30, 1925 to Harry S. and Zelma W. Black Workinger. The father is deceased; the mother lived on route 7, Decatur. He married the former Joan I. Oliver on February 14, 1948; she survives.
He was a 1943 graduate of Pleasant Mills High School and served in the U.S. Marine Corps in World War II. From 1955-70, he operated the Downton Texaco station at Second and Jefferson Sts., changed the name to Arco, and operated it until 1977, when he went to work for the City of Decatur Water Department.
He was a member of Union United Methodist Church and attended St. Mark's United Methodist Church the past 20 years.
He was a 28 year member of the Adams County Sheriff's Department Reserves and a member of Decatur lodge 571 or F&AM, Easter Star chapter 127, Scottish Rite, Adams County Shrine Club, and American Legion Post 43. He was a former member of the Decatur Fire Department's volunteers and the Decatur Optimist Club.
Other survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Michael D. (Darlene S.) Reidenbach, 322 N. First St.; one grandson; one granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. A brother, Bill Workinger died on February 24, 1988.
Preferred memorials are to St. Mark's United Methodist Church, girls' Junior and Senior Leagues, Little League, and boys' Youth League.

Following Influenza - Mary Ann Saggett Dead in Blue Creek Township
Mrs. Mary Ann Saggett, aged eighty-eight, died at eleven o'clock this morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Amey Gould, in Blue Creek township. She had been ailing for some time, and her brother, Jesse Smith, of Colfax, Ill., and her sister, Mrs. Winifred Russell, of this city were at her bedside during a part of her illness. Besides the daughter, who resided with her on her farm, she leaves another daughter in northern Michigan.

Ray R. Fryback dies this morning
Ray R. Fryback, 66, of 315 Stevenson street, a resident of Decatur for many years, died at 4:30 a.m. today at the Parkview memorial hospital, Fort Wayne. He had been ill for the past seven weeks and had been transferred to Parkview Thursday.
A native of Mathews, he was born Feb. 7, 1903, a son of William and Ida Avery-Fryback, and was married to Beulah Reynolds June 1, 1922. His wife preceded him in death April 17, 1965.
Mr. Fryback was employed for many years as a meat cutter in various stores in this city and for the past 10 years had been an employe of Preble Gardens.
He was a member of the Eagles and Moose lodges and attended the Church of God.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Arthur (Bonnie) Poling of Decatur; two brothers, Dee Fryback of Decatur, and Charles Fryback of Fort Wayne; one sister, Mrs. Clyde (Emma) Coffield of Bluffton, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Four brothers and one sister are deceased.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Zwick funeral home, with Rev. James Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the Decatur cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 10:30 a.m. Sunday until time of the services. The Moose lodge will hold services at 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

She was born on September 9, 1921 in Adams County to John and Susie Springer and married Ernest Gephart; he died in 1946.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Tom (Sharon) Fulton, 221 Piedmont Dr.; two sons, John Gephart, Hudson, Indiana, and Roger Agler, 237 1/2 W. Monroe St.; a sister, Mrs. Paul (Margie) Wagner, Cloverdale, Ohio; a half-sister, Dollie Stahl, Lakeside Manor; two half-brothers, William and Lawrence Springer, both of Kalamazoo, Michigan; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. One daughter, Linda Dawson, and two brothers, Calvin and Homer Springer, are deceased.

DECATUR LADY DIES TODAY - Mrs. Maria Drummond Dies This Morning After Long Illness
Mrs. Maria Drummond, 90, stepmother of Mrs. Dick Roop and Mrs. George Cramer of this city, died at 7:30 o'clock this morning at the George Cramer residence, following a three years illness.
Mrs. Drummond suffered a broken hip three years ago and had been bedfast since that time. She made her home with her stepdaughter, Mrs. Cramer for the last 14 years.
The deceased was born in Adams county, May 20, 1843, a daughter of David and Sarah Allen. She was united in marriage to John Drummond, who preceded her in death 12 years ago.
Mrs. Drummond was a devoted member of the Union Chapel United Brethren church.
Surviving are a daughter, Etta Cowell of Douglas, Wyoming, and three step-daughters, Mrs. W. O. Simons, of Albany, Oregon; Mrs. Dick Roop and Mrs. George Cramer, Decatur, and one sister, Mrs. George Conn of Rochester.
Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 10 o'clock from the Union Chapel Church with the Rev. Frank Engle officiating. Burial will be made in the Decatur cemetery.

AT RIPE OLD AGE - John B. Drummond Passed Away at Daughter's Home Friday Afternoon - Funeral on Sunday - Lived in Decatur Many Years - Was a Member of United Brethren Church
John B. Drummond, many years a resident of this city, died Friday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. George Cramer, residing east of Decatur near the Union Chapel church. Mr. Drummond had been ill some time from kidney trouble and complications and this was the cause of his death.
Mr. Drummond was born in this county August 31, 1846, and was 76 years, 6 months and 25 days old. He was married in 1870 to Miss Mary Jane Strickler (sic; should be Sarah Jane), and to this union were born 3 daughters. Mrs. Drummond died in 1879 and he was married the second time to Maria Allen, who with the three daughters survive. They are: Mrs. Nettie Simon, of Albany, Oregon; Mrs. Lydia Cramer, at whose home he died, and Mrs. Dick Roop of this city.
The deceased was converted in early life and united with the United Brethren church. He first became a member of the Pleasant Valley church, and after his removal to Decatur transferred his member to the Decatur U. B. church, where he since remained.
Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon leaving the home of the daughter in Union township at 1:30 o'clock, and at the U. B. church at 2 o'clock, Rev. Miner officiating.

Kenneth Eady
J. Kenneth "Jake" Eady, 81, a resident of N. 17th St., and a retired Decatur General Electric Co. general foreman, died at 2:55 p.m. Friday in the Adams County Memorial Hospital, where he had been a patient three weeks.
"Jake," as he was known to his friends, retired from GE in 1965 after 45 years of service with the company.
He was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ, the GE Quarter Century Club, and the Elks Lodge, where he was a past exalted ruler.
Born in Decatur on Nov. 9, 1901, he was the son of Enoch and Nellie Andrews-Eady, and was married on May 14, 1920, to Romayne Murray; she died Sept. 30, 1980.
Survivors include three children, Mrs. James N. (Norma) Hildebrand, Huntington; Jack Eady, Nokomia, Fla., and a former resident of Decatur; Theodore (Ted) Eady, Decatur; three sisters, Mrs. Gladys Coffee, Decatur; Mrs. Helen Redding, Clearwater, Fla.; Mrs. Niland (Catherine) Ochsenrider, Berne; a brother, Gerald Eady, Tamp, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
One daughter, Lois, one sister, one brother, and one grandchild preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 10 a.m. at the Winteregg-Linn & Haggard Funeral Home, with Rev. Lawrence Balleine officiating. Burial will be in the Decatur Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

Allen Howdyshell dies this morning
Allen F. Howdyshell, 80, of 1003 West Adams street, a resident of this city for the past 11 years died at 1:40 a.m. today at the Adams county memorial hospital, five days after suffering a heart attack.
He was born at Poneto March 11, 1892. His first wife, Minnie Romine, preceded him in death, and was later married to Sarah Durbin July 7, 1962.
Mr. Howdyshell, a retired employe of the Estey Piano Corp. in Bluffton, was a member of the First Baptist church in Decatur, and a 60-year member of the Moose lodge at Bluffton.
Surviving are his wife; one daughter, mrs. Mable Stigers of Logansport; two sons, Albert Howdyshell of Rescue, Calif., and Dale Howdyshell of Ft. Wayne; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the McBride funeral home in Bluffton, with Rev. Allen Roberts officiating. Burial will be in Fairview cemetery at Bluffton. Friends may call at the funeral home after 12 noon Tuesday.
