Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
The name of the mailing list is INADAMS. It seems
illogical that the subject line should also say
"INADAMS", therefore, it will remain "ADMSCO."
I also don't remember of a poll being taken. I only
said that I would take any suggestions into
consideration.
This matter is now closed.
Thank you.

On the road to retirement? Check out MSN Life Events for advice on how to
get there! http://lifeevents.msn.com/category.aspx?cid=Retirement
You did say Pleasant Dale or what was once the "Steele
Cemetary?" The one that is located on the north side
of County Road 300 North, between roads 400 West and
500 West in Adams County Indiana. When you say "
Acceding to the Pleasant Dale Cem, listing"....Do you
mean the listing made by Tom Liby (ThomasLiby(a)AOL.com)
that is on the website URL:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~inadams2/steele.htm?
If you will, read one fourth of the way down in row 3,
and I quote:
Caroline his wife 1828 - 1918 John HARTMAN 1792 - 1870
[large upright gray granite block on gray granite
base] {John Hartman 1792 - 1870, Caroline his wife
1828-1918 from St Luke Reformed, p.54} ____(name)
____(name) A__(date) _ 27, 18__(date) [illegible on
small white stone leaning against larger Hartman]
{Infant of C & J HARTMAN 1852, from cemetery map}
Infant dau. of J.& C HARTMAN ... 18... {Infant of C &
J Hartman 1858, from cemetery map}
Notice it says "From St. Luke Reformed"...
This list was transcribed by Mr. Liby in 1998. It
states that "This extraction was taken from walking
the cemetery during the month of May 1998 and was
compared with the 1957 published reading done by the
Mary Penrose Wayne, DAR Chapter from Fort Wayne,
Indiana. Errors and discrepancies were noted in this
typescript. The use of this record was helpful in
interpreting a few older worn stones that were
difficult to read in 1998. Then, a comparison was made
with a copy of the two maps (the original older
section and the newer addition) that are the cemetery
association's official records."
I was there today, Lynn and I saw the stones. There
was no Jacob listed. As I said, all the markings on
the children's stones have been obliberated. Best bet
is to find the trustee of said cemetary as he will
have the true record of who exactly is buried there.
Or contact Mr. Liby. He is on this list. Ask him
where he got his information. Until you find the exact
source of where Mr. Liby got his information, don't go
by what has been transcribed.
The church is across the road and the parsonage is a
mile East on CR500. CR 500 going West goes into
Simpson.

Sarah

I have no particular objection. It just seemed more logical to use INADAMS, as that's what the list is named at Rootsweb (see http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/usa/IN/adams.html) and that has been it's name since 1996. I didn't see any reason for the change.
Thanks for your consideration.

Was there some objection to using INADAMS in the subject line of messages that go through the list? It's a standard RootsWeb convention that immediately tells the reader the county AND the state the message is related to (there are a lot of Adams Counties scattered throughout the country, and many of us are on more than one list).

Tim;
Have you an objection as to what the subject line is
on the mailing list?
I am aware of how many Adams Counties there are in
this country and I wanted to be different. I did try
Adamsin but that signified that Adam had sinned. (Adam
Sin) We can't have that now, can we?
If you could suggest a better abbreviation instead of
INADAMS, I would be willing to take it into
consideration, but until then, I think it will remain
ADMSCO for Adams County. Oh yes, and since this
affects all who read this list, I felt it was
appropriate to post it for them to read and share.

Sarah

Lynn;
Don't you mean John? John Hartman is there with his
wife Caroline and three children. There is no Jacob.
The children's stones have all been obliterated by
time but the dates on the larger stone for John and
Caroline are:
Caroline 1828 - 1918
John 1792 - 1870
Three small stones on left hand side. One is down and
buried in dirt, the other two are standing.
Did they have a son named Otto?
(This is the Old Steele Cemetary, BTW.)

Would someone happen to have the birthdate of Clinton S Cloud who was married to Eliza Jane Steele. He died 3-11-1911 in Adams Co,In. They were also married in Adams Co,IN. He must have been born before 1845, as he is not on the death index and they are not on the 1880 census. Lynn

Hi Friends,
The current list rules permit me to post only once a month to update you on
new items at the INGenWeb site, so this is the December update.
Nola Rains has contributed listings for the Alpha Cemetery, Reynolds
Cemetery and a completely revised one for the Monmouth Cemetery. Lynn Hilty
Sewell has contributed the Beery Cemetery listings. Thanks for your hard
work getting that information together.
If you have some genealogical information you would like to submit, please
email me and I can tell you how to go about it.
There is a new search tool on the Search page. But there are a couple of
caveats. First, because of the size of the Adams Co. INGenWeb site (now over
1,000 pages of information) the search index is automatically updated only
once every other week. So if you don't find what you're looking for, keep
trying every couple of weeks. Second, the search tool only indexes pages
physically located on the same server as the home page, so it will not find
information from web pages elsewhere that are linked (such as some of the
cemetery and family listings).
If you would like to register the surnames you are researching for the
Surname page, please send me an email with your name and email address (and
optionally your mailing address and/or web site) along with a list of the
surnames you wish to register. I will get them posted as soon as possible.
You can get automatic notification of postings to the message boards (query,
bio, obit, etc...the colored puzzle pieces at the top of each page) by going
to any board and clicking on My Notifications. You will have to register as
a user (it's free) and it's an easy way to know when someone has posted a
message to any board. You can easily reply to any message as well as search
through them (there is a search tool) for surnames of interest.
And don't forget the research tips on the Research page. There is a lot of
helpful material there.
Good luck in your family search! And Happy Holidays!!

Hi!
This is a note to the list administrator. Please take another look at the
