I am posting this as I know many on this list do not live in Adams or Allen IN.
It has come to my attention that the Allen County Library in Ft Wayne,IN has reopened at 200 E Berry St. and the genealogy department is more acessible that before. The library will be at this address for three years while the old libary building is undergoing at $65 million dollar expansion and renovation. Those of you that have access to the library know that it iouses the second largest geneolgy section in the US. Lynn HIlty Sewell

There is a wonderful set of sisters in Iowa, putting 4 volume history
online. Debbie has been putting bios on the Iowa list, and today were
two FUNK bios. One says he was born in Fairfield co, Ohio, the other
Abraham was born in Indiana. There have been many Ohio references, as
well as PA and Indiana. These are mostly political and/or business
bios. Here's the address for the history project. Hope it works.
Otherwise just do an Iowa search I guess. M Calvin

George H. Strickler (1851-1915), s/o Elizabeth Miller and John Strickler m. a Thatcher. Her name was either Jane S. or Martha Jane. They married on 2 Sep 1875 (Adams Co, IN Marriage Book C, p. 626). I would like to know exactly what her name was and who her parents were. I have a bunch of unconnected Thatchers in my files as they connect to my Roop family, so would like to figure out how all the Thatchers are related. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Subject: Letter From IGS President Betty Warren - HB 1540
Betty Warren, President of the Indiana Genealogical Society, addressed
members of the IGS Board and friends in her email below. I received
permission from her to send her email to genealogists and friends. We
are asking you to please write your representative in the state of
Indiana and/or attend Wednesday's session concerning HB 1540 at the
State House in Indianapolis. For more information go to the IGS web site
at http://www.indgensoc.org/HB1540.html to learn more.
And a special thank you to all the Indiana mail list administrators for
your support in sending emails to your mail lists concerning HB 1540!
Darlene Anderson
IGS East Central IN District Director
Dear friends of genealogy and IGS board members,
If you would take some time to check out the IGS website
(www.IndGenSoc.org), you will see that Meredith (thank you for fast
action!) has posted the amendment digest proposed Wednesday February 5th
to *satisfy* the needs of genealogists in relation to the closing of
public access to the IN county birth (100 years) and death records (75
years). If you have not seen the bill yet, please, do read it.
I gave my testimony in the House of Representatives Chamber on Wednesday
in opposition to this bill and the amendment. Even though the use of
the word genealogist in the amendment looks good, I strongly believe
that without specific legal language that gives a definition and
description of genealogist, there would be no access because of
misinterpretation and misuse. The fact that they offered the amendment
is a good sign that dialog is open, as we petitioned for in the IGS
resolution. I, personally, am still opposed at this time.
The bill has been held over in committee, a small victory for the day!
However, it is scheduled to be heard again on Wednesday, February 12th
at 10:30 in the House Chamber. It is a large room, but I would like to
see as many of you there as humanly possible. You would not have to get
up in front and testify (except you, Curt!). But, if we can fill that
room (and the balcony, too would be nice), it would be a wonderful show
of support. There is the possibility that they will put it off to
another day, so do check the Sunday paper for the list of bills to be
heard that week and we will keep in touch with Meredith to keep the
website current. There is also the possibility that they would wait
until the day of to cancel, which we cannot foresee. But, showing up
would still send a very powerful message.
Please continue with your email messages to the committee in regard to
the amendment. They are being noted! Also, take the time to write a
letter, if you can. Please do not use form letters or xerox copies;
that would also be noted. Legible handwritten notes get the most
notice, I am told.
Wilma, please especially thank your local Representative Andrew Thomas
for his support. Unfortunately, he is not on the committee, but he is a
genealogist! And, he took the time to attend the hearing (even though
he was not feeling well) and help support us.
Nancy Hurley of the IGS Legislative Committee, myself and Curt will be
preparing information for testimony; we will keep you posted of events
as soon as we can. If you can help with the information we are
gathering, please contact Nancy. Find her email on the IGS website or
in the list above.
And, please, mark your calendar to attend the hearing on Wednesday!
Parking will be difficult downtown, as most of the garages are used by
the legislators and *restricted from public access* :>) There is not
much available on the street either. The old bus station garage at Ohio
and Capitol is open. If you plan to stop in at the History Center later
in the day, use the IHS lot off of New York. Car pool, if that helps.
I will be coming from work that morning.
Thank you for your continued support. Maybe we can stop this in
committee! At the very least, we can let our voices be heard!
Betty

hi. im just wondering if the ancestor of david clauden was somehow related to my ancestor whom one of cousins told me had clauden surname but change it to claudel because he had killed a muslim and he was hiding his identity.he came to the philippine about the year 1700s.probably he was from mexico or india because philippines then had trade relations.im still on the process of researching about my ancestors in the family history center of the mormons.my great-great-great granpa was a certain cornelio basilio claudel who married a jawel/jamel surname.he was born about 1812.thank u .im sorry for the intrusion.just would like to inquire.any info submitted would be appreciated. thanks.
Linda,
I wish I could help you, but I think you already have more info than I
do. I, also, would like the same info you are seeking.
My paternal grandmother (whom I never met, because she died a year
before I was born in Adams Co.) was Hannah Rosa Diehl (Deihl), b. 13 July
1873, d. 10 March 1936. She, in turn, was a granddaughter of your William
and Hannah Billman through their son, Samuel (b. 16 Nov. 1843 in Kirkland
Twp., Adams Co.) and his wife, Lucinda Klinn (Cline), daughter of Jacob Klinn
and Mary Banna.
I have no other data on William Diehl or Hannah Billman or their
siblings or parents, but would of course like that if anyone knows.
Thanks for raising the query.

Message Board Post:
Families with the Frantz, Franz and France surname did settle in the Wabash, Huntington, Wells and probably Allen, Adams and Whitley Counties in Indiana. My Rice family and people in collateral lines have married into some of these families.
These surnames were also common in and around Wayne County, Ohio in the 1800s.
My g-g-g-grandfather, Henry Rice, married Susannah Franz in Wayne County, Ohio on August 17, 1825. They raised their four boys there and three of the four migrated to Huntington County, Indiana between 1850 and 1864. Henry and Susannah also moved near these sons in Huntington County, Indiana in 1864. They are buried in the France Cemetery on the Old Fort Wayne Road in Jackson Twp., Huntington County, Indiana.
I have on loan from my uncle an 1879 Atlas of Huntington County, Indiana, showing several families with the France surname owning farms in Jackson, Clear Creek and Warren Townships.
Several memorials with the Frantz surname are in the Fairview Cemetery SE of North Manchester in NE Wabash County.
The current sheriff of Wells County is a Frantz, or at least a candidate ran for sheriff named Frantz. I think he won in the last election.

Looking for German Lutherans who came from Minden, Germany area to rural Fort Wayne, IN. Most of the above families settled in Adams, Marion and Madison Twps., but others settled in St. Joe, Wayne and Washington Twps. in Allen Co. IN; others settled in "Old Root Twp." before Adams County existed. Have studied German church records of St. John's Bingen, St. Paul's Preble, Bethlehem, Zion Friedheim, St. Peters Fuelling to name a few.
Somewhere in Church records or Adams County IN vital records the above surnames are connected to me.
