Lisa, I may have written to you before but I am becoming more certain that my gggrandfather Jackson E. Heavilin is a brother to your Joseph Heavilin. Jackson was born in 1833 in Ohio, married in 1856 in Adams County Indiana to a Sarah Ann McClary. He served in the 89th Indiana Infantry in the Civil War. I know what happened after they moved to Kansas in 1885, but not before that. You asked for help with Joseph and I really can't give any except in regard to Jackson Heavilin. Thanks for any help you can give me on this.

I would love to find more information on this Pillars family. Mary Jane Lingenfelt was the daughter of William Lingefelt (various spellings) and Elizabeth Roop. I am a Roop researcher trying to find all the descendants of Elizabeth's parents, Fredrick Roop and Elizabeth Abbott of Huntingdon Co, PA. Happy to share what I know, but have lots of questions on the Pillars family. Please get in touch!

Message Board Post:
Berne Witness, Thursday, July 18, 1901
Mrs. Verena Stuckey, nee Schmugger, of French township, died at the home of her son-in-law, Joseph Yoder near Leo, Allen county, Wednesday evening and her remains were brought here on Thursday, accompanied by Mr. Yoder and his wife and her other children, Moses and Christian Stuckey, and Peter Stuckey who had gone out the week before. Her remains were interred from the old Egly church in French township Friday afternoon.
Mrs. Stuckey was the wife of Rev. Nicklaus Stuckey who preceded her a few years ago. She died at the age of 73 years.
Verena was my great-grandmother, her maiden name was Schmucker, not Schmugger, as in the obituary.
