I am searching for information about two Barnetts that
most likely lived in Adams Co.
The first is John H. Barnett, b. abt 1874. Married
Ida B. Hower on Feb 15, 1894, Adams Co., IN, b. abt
1874, d. 1966, Wells, Adams Co.
The second is Orpha Barnett, b. abt 1880. Married
Joseph S. Cloud, b. Nov 18, 1878.
I have a hunch that one or both of these two Barnetts
could be related to my G-G-Grandmother, Viola M.
Barnett, b. Mar 9, 1872. She married Alva Curtis
Hower.
Thanks,
Kristin

Surname: Ellenberger
-------------------------
I am trying to find information about Faldine Ellenberger who was living
in Adams County in the mid 1800s. Faldine married Salome Walchli/Welkley/Welty
around the 1860s. They had a child named William Henry Ellenberger on 1
Nov 1863. When William was between 1 and 3 years old Faldine died in some
kind of accident involving a horse and/or wagon. His widow left Berne,
Indiana and walked to Beaverdam, OH to live. She met and married Isaac
Hilty and had several more children. I would like to find any kind of information
on the Ellenberger family in Adams County that can tied to Faldine.

Surname: SOVINE
-------------------------
Dear Charlie,
Thanx for your comment. Red Sovine of country music fame came from the
West Virginia branch of the family. At least I THINK they may be a branch
way, way back. But, at present, I can't tie them to the IN and OH branches
of the family, which go back to the 1600s in Switzerland.
Best, BarBara

Surname: Sovine
-------------------------
I wonder if any of this is related to a country-western singer of the 1950-1970
era named "Red" Sovine??? He worked out of Nashville. Perhaps the Country
Music Hall of Fame there has bio info on him.....

Hi, everyone!
Since Tim Singleton just mentioned the WPA birth, death and marriage indexes,
I thought I would add that I have this film on indefinite loan at my local
Family History Center, and would be happy to do lookups.

Hi Everyone,
I usually don't surf the fee based genealogy internet sites, since there's
so much available free, but I got a free 2 month subscription to
Genealogy.com (because they just discontinued the software I use) and
discovered that they have the WPA birth, death and marriage indexes on line.
I don't know how they aquired them, nor how accurate the transcription is,
but thought you might like to know about it.
I don't know what the fees are for genealogy.com or whether it's worth
paying for a subscription. I just found the indexes when I searched for my
surname, Singleton.
It's worth repeating as a reminder that just because you find something on
the internet it doesn't mean it is true. You still should verify details
with primary information when possible.

Can you help me find the death dates and where-abouts in Decatur, that Burg
and Rose Womack, were buried?.
I think they must have died sometime after 1936, when I last saw them
alive.
Thank you for any suggestions that you might give me to find these
relatives.

What were the earliest churches in the St. Mary's area fo Adam's County? Say,
as early as 1830? And would anyone have current addresses for these churches
or the organization that would have thier old records?
Thanks!

Surname:
-------------------------
Maplewood does not have additional Penningtons as far as the DAR index
is concerned. This reading was done in the late 1950's probably. There
are two Penningtons buried at St Joseph Cemetery, also in Decatur. They
are Charles and Mary, with urns only, no further information given.
According to the Adams County Indiana Death Records Index, Charles lived
3-20-1878 to 9-24-1933, and Mary died at age 37 years 11 mo and 9 days
on 1-3-1916.
This index (ACIDRI) does list a William H. Pennington, born Oct 28 1873
living in Decatur at his death Feb 17 1957. He is buried at Maplewood.
His funeral was handled by Zwick Funeral Home as was Charles'.
You may contact Bill Zwick at 520 N 2nd Street, Decatur, IN 46733 and request
copies of the records and obituaries found in book ZSJ01p229 for Charles
and ZSJGD3p190 for William.
Good luck.

Are there any other Penningtons buried in Maple Wood Cemetery, Adams County,
who might be children of Herbert & Lydia? I know that his parents and probably
hers are buried in Illinois.
