Jeffersonville (IN) National Democrat, November 5, 1897, p. 2. NOTE: Two
separate articles from the same newspaper on the same date and the same
page.
Dr. Will Shelby and his brother, Ed Shelby, were arrested yesterday
afternoon by Sheriff Hawes at their home in Charlestown. The charges
against them have been referred to several times, and it was thought that
the marriage of Ed Shelby and Miss Cora Roach would cause the indictments to
be quashed. The NEWS referred to the matter yesterday and stated there
would be no compromise
The two young men gave bond for their appearance before the Clark circuit
court, Nov. 15, with Charles Shelby and M. D. Reeves as security.

The indictments against Dr. Will Shelby and his brother, Ed, for performing
a criminal operation on Miss Cora Roach, now Mrs. Ed Shelby, have not been
dismissed as generally supposed they would be by the marriage.
Ward H. Watson asked that they be nollied, and Judge Gibson said that
written reasons for such action would have to be filed. The matter was
returned to Mr. George H. Voight who, as acting prosecuting attorney, did
not see fit to make the motion as long as an indictment existed against Dr.
Secoy (sic), which left the case as it came from the grand jury.
