CLOCK TICKS FOR 104 YEARS
Jeffersonville, Ind.-Ira Fouts of New Washington has a clock that has run
since it was made in 1816. It is hanging in a brick house built in 1826.
The clock was made by William Thompson, an Englishmen, according to a
statement posted in the back of the clock in 1908 by the late John Calvin
Fouts, father of the present owner. Mr. Fouts said Thompson brought his
tools and brass plates from England and cut out all the wheels and
machinery, piece by piece. The father of John Calvin Fouts started the
clock running May 12, 1816, and it has run 104 years, keeping good time.
