FORTUNE LEFT TO CHURCH
Will of Edward Spring Makes Bequests to Charity
Columbus, Ind., August 8-The death of Edward Springer, age 84, president of
the Farmers and Merchants' Bank at Elizabethtown, this county, will in no
way affect the bank, and the business will be conducted as before. The bank
is incorporated, and in due time a change in the list of officers will be
made. William E. Springer, representative in the last legislature, former
district chairman and now the Republican candidate for joint senator, is the
cashier of the bank and probably will be elected president.
Edward Springer was a prominent member of the Christian Church and when the
first church building of that denomination was erected at Elizabethtown he
acted as janitor and would accept no salary for his services. Although a
lifelong Republican, he never held office. Mr. Springer made a will the day
of his death, and it is the understanding that various sums have been left
to churches and charitable institutions. His estate is valued at more than
$100,000.
