BRAINED WITH AN AX
Man Killed by His Stepson to Save the Boy's Mother
Columbus, Ind., Feb. 27-George Jarrett, a boy 20 years old, this evening at
six o'clock killed his stepfather, Osmond Maloy (consider Malloy as a
spelling variant) with an ax. The tragedy occurred in East Columbus, a
suburb of this place, and where Maloy, his wife and stepson lived. The
story told by the boy, his mother and the neighbors is to the effect that
Maloy got drunk and began to abuse his wife and to destroy her apparel and
the household goods. Mrs. Maloy went to a neighbor's and Maloy followed her
and dragged her by the hair to the street. Then he got an ax and brandished
it in the air, threatening to kill her.
George Maloy (sic) then seized another ax lying near and struck his
stepfather on the head killing him. The boy surrendered himself to the
sheriff.
Maloy had a reputation as a "bad man," as several years ago he killed a man
named Pell. He escaped with a light sentence as there were no witnesses to
the crime.
