ORPHANS' HOME
The county commissioners and board of managers inspected the home Tuesday.
The commissioners endorsed the proposed purchase of the nearly nine acres of
ground from Charles McCalla. The price paid was $300 per acre, a total of
$2,608.10. $806.10 was paid cash by the board of managers out of the
surplus they have on hand. Orders were issued and endorsed by the
commissioners drawing six percent interest and taken up by William Brockman
who paid over the balance of the purchase money in cash. The board of
managers is to pay Mr. Brockman $300 per quarter or $100 per month out of
their savings and thus take up the orders without any cost to the county or
taxpayers. The home now has 50 inmates.
