CAN'T BE A SOLDIER AND DEMOCRAT
Nashville, Ind., Aug. 22-An upheaval of the usual Democratic tranquility
occurred in Nashville, Brown County, last week, and the vibration of the
mighty shock has pervaded the remotest recesses of the party. The calamity
was in the espousal of Republicanism by Henry W. King, one of the most
influential Democrats in the party. He is a leading farmer and a man who
fought in the late war for his country. Mr. King has been solicited by his
party to make a race for county office at different time and as often has he
been defeated at the primaries. It seems that the fact of a man being upon
the pension rolls vitiates his availability as a successful candidate. So
pronounced has this fact shown itself in this county that the Republican
Party may feel confident of many acquisitions.
