"I'M GLAD I KILLED HIM"
Says Indiana War Veteran Who Shot Wife's Companion
Columbus, Ind., Oct. 4-"I killed him and am glad of it" confessed John Barr,
75 years old, a Civil War veteran of Elizabethtown, six miles south of here
today, when he was arrested and charged with the murder of Daniel Lovelace,
55, a businessman of Elizabethtown.
Barr's wife, 52 years old, and 9-year-old son witnessed the killing. The
latter testified at the coroner's inquest.
"Father shot him three times before he fell dead and two times after he had
fallen. Father then kicked him several times in the face," said the boy.
Barr is the father of Mead Barr who is in the state prison for having killed
a negro in Indianapolis several years ago and who, a year ago, was tried for
the murder of a girl in Dallas, Texas, but was acquitted.
