Bloomington (IN) Telephone, October 19, 1897, p. 4.
Bedford Democrat: "A message was received here Friday night from Galveston,
Texas announcing the death in that city of Robert Newland, son of Mrs.
Elizabeth Newland, who lives south of town. Mr. Newland was 28 years of age
and was agent for the American Express Company in Galveston. None of his
relatives here knew that he was sick, and while the message gave no
information other than that he was dead, it is supposed he died of yellow
fever. Mr. Newland is a brother of John and Miss Cora Newland, of this
city, and Mrs. S. W. Holmes of Mitchell."
