The Rev. John Welker was knocked down and killed near Corydon, Ind., by
David Wheat. The latter had received a note warning him to leave the
country on peril of being "whitecapped" which Welker undertook to secure. A
quarrel followed during which Wheat struck the minister with a billet of
wood.
