DECLARED INSANE
Ed Griner, 67 years old, has been declared insane by a lunacy court composed
of Squire Calvin and Drs. Nolan and Turner, and an application will be
forwarded asking that he be admitted to the State Hospital at Madison. The
unfortunate man imagines that he cannot be saved from a home in Purgatory;
that the devil has seized him by the head; says that he wants to die, and on
one occasion he asked Fred Bay to take him out and chop off his head with an
ax. About 40 years ago he was sent to the insane hospital and after a time
was discharged, and in July 1907, he again lost his mind and was recommitted
to the hospital and for the second time was discharged. He has been twice
married, his first marriage terminating in a divorce. He is a son of Jacob
Griner, deceased, is the father of eleven children by his first wife and
four children by his second wife.
