UNDER THE WHEELS
John Marion Williams Crushed at Watson
A fatal accident occurred at Watson yesterday about noon. John Marion
Williams, a blacksmith from Nabb Station, had boarded the local freight on
the O. & M. at this city to go to his home. He went on the rear end of the
caboose and was under the influence of liquor.
The train stopped at Watson to switch off some cars, and during the jolting
occasioned by the cars bumping together, Williams fell off. The wheels of
one truck passed over his body at the hips crushing him almost to a pulp
before the train could be stopped. He was lifted into the caboose by the
train men and, as there is no doctor at Watson, was taken to Charlestown
where surgical attention was rendered.
Persons who arrived here this morning from Charlestown reported Williams
still alive with no hope of recovery and suffering untold agony.
Mrs. Calvin Breeden is a sister of the unfortunate man, and herself and
husband went up last night to attend to him.
