Brown County is split pro and con over the arrest of Sheriff Samuel Parks
last Sunday night on a charge of intoxication. The arrest was brought about
by members of the Brown County Horse Thief Association, and the sheriff was
thrown in jail just as the fox hunting festivities were about to start. The
arrest was made by the county coroner who has the legal power to arrest the
sheriff in case he "goes wrong." Many of the fox hunting visitors brought
their drinks with them, it is said, but dry sleuths and horse thief
detectives kept the crowd fairly "dry" during the week. The Brown County
sheriff was lodged in jail at Columbus but was liberated on bond in a couple
of hours.
