a bound volume of obituaries available at the John Hay Center in Salem,
Indiana.
There lived in Polk Township several families by the name of Tash. The
ancestor, John Tash, was born in the year 1781 near Salem in the famous
County of Rowan in the State of North Carolina. He moved from North
Carolina to Utica, Clark County, in 1817 where he only remained two weeks
and came to Washington County and settled in what is now Polk Township. He
then removed to some land he had entered on Lost River. After staying there
a year, he became dissatisfied and returned to the old farm in Polk where he
died in 1832. He was married in North Carolina and by his first wife had
one son, Samuel, who now lives in Iowa and is about 70 years of age. When
his first wife died, we do not know, nor whether in North Carolina or
Indiana, but we learn that he married a second time. By the second wife he
had several children:
Joseph Tash (March 2, 1812 - March 6, 1887). Buried in the Tash Cemetery.
Born in Rowan County, North Carolina, single.
Andrew Tash (May 3 or 12, 1814 - May 10, 1877). Married Barbara Morris.
Lewis Tash (April 3, 1816 - November 15, 1878). Born in North Carolina.
Married Catherine Elrod.
John Tash, Jr. (October 3, 1812 - March 20, 1893). He was married three
times: Anna Bixler, December 9, 1847; Lizzie Buchanan; Jane Hamilton, May
20, 1886.
Christian Tash, Sr. (May 5, 1824 - March 11, 1892). Married Matilda Walker,
April 18, 1847.
Catherine Tash (October 27, 1810 - ). Married Joseph
Souder.
Tabitha Tash (March 11, 1819 - ). Married Aquilla
Teague.
Sarah Tash (April 23, 1826 - ). Married Samuel L. Baker.
Malinda Tash (January 1831 - June 24, 1913). Married Wade Graves.
Samuel Tash, son of John Tash, born November 25, 1806, by a former marriage
to Milley Murrell, recorded in North Carolina, 1804.
John Tash married second Sarah Stanley.
August 14, 1833-Stephen Elrod with Samuel Gray and Jacob Tash as his
security is appointed guardian of Andrew Lewis, Tabitha, John, Christian,
Sally and Malinda Tash, minor heirs of John Tash, dec'd.
