KILLED BY A SUSPECTED VIGILANTE
Scottsburg, Ind., April 6-James Fitzsimmons was yesterday shot twice and
killed by Joseph M. Harrod at Austin, this county, on account of an old feud
that grew out of the deceased and others being whipped by vigilantes last
winter. Harrod was suspected of being the leader of the vigilantes and was
threatened with an attack by Fitzsimmons, with the above. An inquest was
held eliciting the above facts. Harrod remarked that he was sorry he had
killed him and rode away. No arrest.
