DEATH OF MARION ARCHIBALD
Marion Archibald, a Civil War veteran and one of the wealthiest and best
known citizens of Boone Township, passed away Sunday, April 7, at his home
near Alton after a long and painful illness. The body was laid to rest
Monday afternoon at the Sheckells Cemetery beside that of his faithful wife
who preceded him by two years into the great beyond. The funeral was in
point of attendance the largest ever held in this vicinity. Rev. T. L.
Jones, of Pleasant Ridge, officiated. The following was in part the
obituary read. Marion Archibald was born in Ohio, December 12, 1845, and
died at his home near Alton, Sunday, April 7, 1918. He served in Co. K, 38
Indiana, during the Civil War with an honorable discharge at its close. He
was married to Hannah Melton and to this union nine children were born.
Those which survive him are Mrs. Sam Rhodes and Edward Archibald of Cedar
Rapids, Ia., Mrs. Jesse Wiseman, Martin I. and Percy Archibald of this
place. Other near surviving relatives are two brothers, Jack and Dollar
Archibald, all of whom have the tenderest sympathy of the entire community
of friends.
