ARRESTED FOR ATTEMPTED RAPE
Madison, November 7-Deputy Sheriff Demaree and Constable John Smith arrested
in Indianapolis today and brought to this city this afternoon Tom Murphy, an
employee of Kingan's pork house, and Frank McGee, a switchman in the
Vandalia yard, and also J. B. McDonald of Columbus, Ind., who, in connection
with Albert Haasfurder, Andy Gavin and a party named Adkins, are wanted to
answer a charge of assault and battery with intent to commit rape on the
person of Agnes Baker, a colored lady residing in North Madison, a short
time since. The parties were held on $1,000 each this evening, in default
of which they were sent to jail. They will be tried at the next term of
court.
