$5,000 IS DEMANDED FOR PERSONAL INJURY
Suit for $5,000 damages against the Illinois Central Railroad Company has
been filed in circuit court here by Elmer Loudon of Salem, a member of the
firm of the McCowan Lumber Company, who alleges that he received permanent
injuries while riding on a freight train between Unionville and Needmore
last fall.
Loudon says in his complaint that he had been receiving lumber along the
line and was riding in the caboose. The train had been uncoupled while some
switching was being done and, in connecting up again, he alleges that some
boxcars were bumped into the caboose so hard that he was thrown from his
seat to the opposite side, the impact breaking three of his ribs, injuring
his back and disabling him for life. The suit is brought through Wilbur
Hottel of Salem.
