Hartsville is a small town of about 500 inhabitants located in the southeast
corner of Hawcreek Township. In this town there is located two general
stores, one restaurant, two groceries, two millinery, one hardware, two
agriculture, one drug, two livery stables, two barber shops, one saw mill,
one planing mill, two blacksmith shops, one grist mill, one public building,
one college, one public school building, one jewelry shop, three churches,
sixteen ministers, 135 voters, 100 (difficult to read) republicans, 30
democrats, five prohibitionists. The weather is usually the same as that of
the surrounding country.
