News by Telegraph from Various Towns in Indiana-Unable to Find His Child
Jeffersonville, Ind., Oct. 21-James Nolan of this city placed his 3-year-old
daughter, Amy, in the orphans' home here last December. On Christmas day he
visited the institution to see his child and give her a couple of presents
and was dumbfounded on being told that she was not there. The matron
refused to give him any information whatever except that she was in a
permanent home. Up to the present time, he has been unable to ascertain her
whereabouts and has employed attorneys to institute proceedings. Under the
law, the state board of charities can secure homes for orphan children but
not without the written consent of the remaining relatives, if any.
