BENJAMIN KNOTT WEDDLE
Benjamin Knott Weddle was born in Jackson County, February 14, 1848
(difficult to read). His parents were humble folk but of sterling
reputation in their community.
On April 3, 1859, Benjamin K. Weddle and Miss Mary A. Utterback were married
at her home near Leesville. They have spent their life in Medora, Bedford
and Salem. There were eight children born to this home, five of whom are
dead, namely: Fanny, Clemma E., William B., Daisy May and one in infancy.
Three are living: Mrs. Minnie Short of Salem, Claude M. Weddle of
Indianapolis and Harry Weddle of Tulsa, Oklahoma. The last named could not
be present for the funeral. Fourteen grandchildren and thirteen great
grandchildren are living. Three brothers also survive, John A. of Medora,
Andrew J. of Muncie and Frank P. of Medora. All were present at the
funeral.
The deceased was always a farmer or laborer and one that could always be
depended upon for faithfulness to his task. He was able to do manual labor
until about a year ago when physical collapses incident to age came upon
him. For several months he and his wife have been making their home with
Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Short where he died on October 26th, 1923.
While a resident of Salem, many years ago Brother Weddle became a Christian,
a member of the Walnut Street Christian Church.
Funeral services were conducted at the home on Sunday at 1:30 by Pastor
Ashley. Burial was made in Crown Hill.
