MRS. NANCY PURKHEISER
Nancy J. Goodpasture, daughter of Samuel and Eliza Goodpasture, was born
November 8, 1851, in Bash County, Kentucky, and departed this life October
20, 1923, being 71 years, 11 months and 12 days old.
At the age of 15 years she united with the Church of Christ at Carter's
Creek, Orange County, this state. In 1876 she was united in marriage with
Nathan L. Isgrig. To this union were born seven children, four girls, three
having passed to the great beyond, and three boys, two of them also having
crossed over. On March 30, 1886, her husband, above mentioned, answered the
great summons and she was left a widow.
On August 21, 1897, she was united in marriage to John Purkheiser who
departed this life eight years ago last March.
There remains but two of her children, Samuel Isgrig of Terre Haute,
Indiana, and Mrs. Arthur Purlee of this city, two sisters, Mrs. Margaret
Johnson of Orange County and Mrs. Mary Chastain of Bedford, also three
brothers, James Goodpasture of Salem, Baford Goodpasture of Kentucky and
Noah Goodpasture of Illinois.
There are also left to mourn Sister Purkheiser's departure five
grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
In her departure, the city has lost a good citizen, the community a good
neighbor, the church a faithful and active member, the sisters and brothers
in the flesh a real sister, and her children a real mother. Yet let us be
comforted with the thought that earth has no sorrow that heaven cannot heal.
Impressive funeral services were conducted at the Church of Christ Tuesday
afternoon at 1:30 o'clock by Elder Otis Scott of Borden. Interment at Crown
Hill.
